I think you could use this manual method instead.. My nephew used it to repair my
car and it's totally perfectly fine now. Here's the website he bought it from. www.reliable-store.com

SOURCE: how to replace fuel pump on 2002 impala
My 2002 Impala has the panel in the trunk. I took the panel off and the fuel pump is accessible. I will probably attempt to replace the fuel pump myself since the fuel gauge does not work anymore and the dealership indicated that the problem was the fuel level float connected to the fuel pump.
Does anyone know if there is anything special I need to do prior to replacing the fuel pump, such as draining the fuel, etc...? I was planning to at least run the car until I was near empty.
FYI, here is a link to a set of videos about replacing fuel pumps. It's a set of 13 short video clips. http://www.wonderhowto.com/how-to/video/how-to-repair-or-replace-a-fuel-pump-226058/

You sure need to remove the back seat all the way to enable you access to the fuel tank.
Good luck dear.
SOURCE: Is there an access panel under the rear seat for
no access panel, that would be sooo easy. you'll have to drop the gas tank to replace the sending unit and i don't know how much research you've done, but i've never been able to buy just the sending unit by itself. i've had to buy the whole fuel pump.the more fuel thats in the tank, the heavier it's gonna be. have a jack handy, have a helper handy, and use jack stands! you sure don't want the car to fall on you.the main filler hose will have to come off and there is a return line hose that has to come off also.the fuel pump plugs into the tank on the top of tank,be careful dropping that tank, let it down easy! you can cause an electrical problem if you let those wires stretch. been there, done that. drain the gas out of the tank once you get it down,it'll be easier to reinstall and lighter, easier to put back into place. hope this helps, and good luck. thank you for choosing fixya.com
