VW Passat SE5 2003 model
Tyre wear is related to the load you put on your tyres and the pressures you run them at, many tyre suppliers have charts to show you visually why your tyres are wearing and what you should do. Low pressure and high pressure both stress the tyres more than the correct pressure. There is a guide to what pressure your tyres should run at for light and heavy loading, adjusting the pressure for a trip can also save fuel and improve handling. VW recommend 28 Psi all round for your 2003 Passat on standard Tyres.
The ASR light indicates that your stability control system is working, if it is just cutting in as you hit adverse conditions then it is working how it should, if it is staying on go talk to your VW Mechanic , there may be a fault, try turning the ASR button on and off on the dash.

The flashing is telling you that the engine is mis-firing, the dealer will run a test to determine the cylinder that is mis-firing, chances are it is something simple

The ASR (acceleration slip regulation) light is for the ETA (electronic throttle actuator) it is a mysterious beast that controls throttle placement. I would say that you have one of two problems. Either the interior insulation of the wiring of the ETA is is crumbling or the wiring harness is disintegrating. Either fix isn't cheap although if I had to pick one I'd pick the wiring harness. It's about a third of an ETA. In short check he wiring to the ETA, look for damage or water intrusion, if nothing is found you will have to replace the ETA control.

For two years I lived with the the ASR light coming on shortly after starting the car and had to either continue driving it in the limp home mode, or stop the car to restart it to regain normal engine operation with the ASR light out. Finally, it got so bad I simply took a chance, after discussing the problem with a reputable local indie, and bought a rebuilt ETA from Potomac German Auto and put it in. The part had a one year warranty with it and was about half the cost of a new unit from MB. There are other companies out there that rebuild these units as well. At any rate the ASR problem went away. To give you a reference point, my car had about 156,000 miles on it when I did this repair. That may or may not be significant to your situation, and I probably should have corrected this problem well before I did, but I didn't.

From what you said the car goes to LIMP HOME mode and that is ASR issue that can't be solved by connecting your car to the computer and having the issue pinpointed. ASR can't be tested. You will have to replace engine wiring harnes FIRST part # 140 540 47 05 buy on line or on EBAY cost is about $610.00, check the performance of your car, if you lucky then this it. But from my experience next to replace is a left ETA (if not two of them) to fix this problem they are VERY EXPENSIVE about $4000.00 ea. ETA Left # 000 141 72 25 and right # 000 141 39 25. Word of advice DON"T BUY ANY OF THE ABOVE MENTION PARTS USED, remove your own ETA's from the car and call BBA Remanufacturing Inc. @ 866-573-2740 (www.bba-reman.com) they can rebuild your own ETA's at about $300.00 ea plus shipping. The work is guaranteed. After replacing above parts the car will run like new. No ASR issues for next 10-15 years. So far I find this as a number one issue with Mercedes S600. Good luck.
