The motor is behind the glass inside the car. The wiring harness is behind the plastic panel and snakes to the right side of the car, going up towards the hinges and comes out to a rubber boot and into the right C pillar snaking it's way to the front. Up front, it snakes towards the wiper switch (right stalk) then towards the relay above the clutch area. The washer which both the front and the rear shares one reservoir inside the engine compartment.
lift the spare wheel out of the car there is a drain plug under it.
also its more likely to be leaking through the rear lights or rubber seal around the doors or boot. I have a golf was leaking from the back passenger door. and the front passenger side. back was the door seal and the front was a drain plug that was clogged up lift the bonnet and look around the bulkhead/ thats the part closest to the windscreen where the wipers are loacted, look right down it for any leafs etc.
What colour is this light.
The Golf mk4 sdi certainly should have brake pad wear sensors front and
rear and the light on dash for this is orange with a similar symbol to
what you describe.
The ABS light is orange with ABS printed on it

Do you smell a sweet odor? like from the coolant in your radiator? Your heater core may be leaking coolant into the car. Or your front window or door seals may be leaking.
I understand there are 4 run off points for the water two at the front and 2 at the back.
on my golf i had a problem that the front one was blocked (off side ) if you open the door and look where the hinges are there is a black rubber nipple this was blocked.
I understand the back ones are underneath somewhere - if you do a sear on golf mk4 interior leak you should get the answer to your problem - I hope this information is useful.
