- spark plugs fouled or worn (likely after about 50000 km) - low fuel pressure (maybe) - ignition timing not correct (an ECU problem, is there any check engine light?) - air leak into the intake manifold (the most likely)
These engines develop a split in the big hose from the air cleaner to the air flow body. Look for that first.
Thanks for choosing FixYa and welcome to the site. If you haven't had a tune up in awhile, I would suggest it. You may have a bad spark plug, coil, or wire. Make sure you don't have a vacuum leak on the engine. Make sure your air filter is not clogged also. Make sure all hoses and wire appear to be connected on the engine. If you have a check engine light on, be sure to get the car scanned at an auto part store. It may be due to air flow considering it only happens when accelerating. You are getting little air flow at this point. Something may be restricting your air flow so check all hoses.
could be the knock sensor or faulty cam or crank sensor. one of these could be failing but it's recommended to read the engine codes with a scanner as it will tell you the exact fault.
sounds like you got water in the throttle position sensor. that will mess it up. look on the intake where the throttle cable is connected and on the other end of the intake is the throttle position sensor is located. if you get water in them they short out and don't work very good anymore. time for a new one. if your check engine lite is on then it is most likely the problem
You need to replace the Air-fuel sensor. I would strongly suggest that you purchase and install a Toyota sensor, however. The "aftermarket" sensors do not have the exact same voltage signals, and will not rectify the condition; the light will remain on. We see this quite a bit in our service dept.
Have had similiar problem w. 2002 Highlander.
It happens when the airfilter comparment is touched, moved or opened. The hose attachment comes lose and the engine light comes on. Attached hose to airfilter casing a little tighter and the light will eventually go off. Takes about 2 weeks to go off.
