With all the electronic's on your vehicle this type problem is hard to diagnose. It would be better if it died an didn't start back up , then it could be diagnosed . Your vehicle has a number of electronic control module's , sensor's etc..... Plus the modules all share information on a serial data bus ,communication network . A loose connection ,a module not sending info. ,anything like this could bring down the data bus an cause it to die. I feel for you , the dealer shouldn't have just replaced part's like that if they were not sure . Problems like this can take a long time to pin down . Hooking up testing equipment , using a 8 channel lab scope to check electical signals to an from the PCM , BCM ,data bus. Could take a lot of diagnostic time . Did you buy the vehicle new ? Get the factory Rep. involved , engineers from cadillac etc. When i have a problem vehicle at the dealer that's what i do , call tech help line .
the catalytic converter most likely is no the sorurce of the problem, older design bead type Cat converters used to plug, but it is very rare on the newer ceramic honeycomb cats, u need to have the electronic engine control tested, are u getting a check engije light? if not has the fuel filter been replaced every 30,000 miles? also a part called the Mass Airflow sensor can cause these symptoms as well as igntion system problems.
/// new column needs a multi function switch 500 dollars but i would wire around it and add old time floor switch done it lots and it works well get a diagram from the library to find the wires to cut ground switched i believe
You have the Laser Adaptive cruise control. Using the adaptive cruise control, it does indeed increment by 5MPH increments. The dash indicator has a series of parentheses ((( to show that it is on. The advantage to the adaptive system is that a laser measures the distance to the car in front of you and will slow the car to match the car in front, maintaining distance. It will even brake for you if it detects a collision is imminent.
To turn off the adaptive system (revert to regular cruise control), push the cruise control lever straight back for more than 1 second. The parentheses in the dash indicator will disappear. When using conventional cruise control (non-adaptive), the con tol will then increment the speed by 1MPH increments.
This is covered in the user manual at the end of the cruise control section.
does your cruise control work??? I had no heat or a/c intermittent, and cruise did not work. I replaced the ignition switch (behind the key) and everything works fine now. Switch was 80 dollars and about 2.5 hours of work... the shop wanted 450 dollars.
I have a 1999 SL1 that I'm having a field day with. I installed a OEM cruise control on the car, took it to the dealer and had them program the PCM to see the cruise.
Cruise works flawlessly, but now I have a Service Engine Soon and Service Lights on all the time (Crank position sensor error and 1 cylinder missfire error) that the dealer cannot get to reset (Car runs perfectly) Dealer has worked on it 4 days so far (at their cost, not mine) they seem to be stumped. I love it!
