  • The open pipe that you took the hose off of is the thermostat housing, you will need to remove this to reveal the thermostat, make sure you use a new gasket with sealant when reinstalling thermostat housing to prevent leaks and dont over tighten the bolts, run both bolts down as far as you can before final tightning

SOURCE: 96 ford contour, temp gauge not working

first and foremost check the fuse box. there is a fuse for guages. The temp sensor is somewhere on the manifold and it will have a hard wire with probably a spring around it for protections that runs from the engine to the instrument cluster. You can remove the temp sensor and use a heat gun or propain heat and see if you get any kind of response. I suspect if all your other gauges are working the fuse is good. Most temp sensors do not use power only for lighting of the gauge, It just sends a resistance change to the water temp bulb and it moves the gauge. Is it a seperate gauge or in your insturment cluster? could be simple as a crushed line or the sensor went bad. It is normally self contained. I suspect it is a gauge and not a dummy light? if you can not get the one working in the instrument cluster I suggest going to and autoparts store and replace it which is very easy to do. You can remove the old sensor from the block and reinstall the new on in its place and run the cable back through where the first one was and mount the gauge in another area, It is very important to know the water temp since most computers use this info for setting the correct fuel to air mixture in a closed loop system. That is a diffrent sensor but you need to know the temp yourself to keep from blowing a head gasket or worse which can cause you lots of money to repair, I prefer to mount my own gauge seperate from the cluster, best of luck

SOURCE: 1996 FORD CONTOUR 4CYL ROUGH IDLE ROUGH ACCELERATION

no problem. If you are getting that low of voltage on a load then you might want to test the alternator as well to make sure it is running at capacity.

SOURCE: Draining Battery on 1996 Ford Contour

A battery drain will not be caused by a bad fuse, its called by something draining power that you can not see. We call this a parasitic dran because just like a parasite drains your energy so does this. Its easy to test for if you have a test light. Loosen the negative battery cable and attach the aligator clip to the clamp next hold the post of the test light to the post of the battery and remove the battery cable being careful not to let it touch the test light. If you have any light thats your drain. On some fords you need to give the computers 30 minutes to power down after shutting the car off. if you want to isolate the system thats causing the drain pull and replace fuses one by one, when the light goes out you have your suspect.

No hot air blowing through the vents on a 1998 ford contour 2.4l can anybody tell me why?

Hi again Joe

How come your Ford Contour has changed from a 2.0 litre to a 2.4 overnight?

Now you have heat in the heater core housing. That is hot enough to blow warm air. Is the fan working okay? The only thing left if that pesky electronic heater valve. At least with your newly found 2.4 litre engine, there are more spares available for that model.

Good luck with it. I think I'm out on this one now.

Why is my 1998 ford contour over heating and my heater no longer works

Radiator is corroded, plugged up due to age. Same with the heater core. You door vents might not be working, which could also result in a no heat situation.

99 ford contour gauge shows running hot. Change both sensors near thermostat and the thermostat. Flushed system and burped it. Ac or heat makes no difference. Fans seems to be working. Any ideas?

Is it ACTUALLY overheating? Check for heat at the top and bottom radiator hoses, and at both heater core hoses. If one is cold then your radiator or your heater core may be plugged and in need of a individual flush.

I need to replace the radiator on my 1999 contour, does it come out the top or bottow?

It comes out through the top....Make sure the engine is cold first.
  • Disconnect the cooling fan electrics.
  • Remove the cowling fasteners if required
  • Remove the bottom hose clamp
  • Remove the top hose clamp
  • Open the drain tap or simply remove the lower hose.
  • If the hoses are hard to remove, gently twist back and forth until they have become loose and then remove.
  • Un-bolt the two radiator clamps on the top, which hold the radiator and lift it out carefully.
  • When replacing it's a good idea to replace the hoses and the clamps together with a new pressure cap.

HOW DO I CHANGE A UPPER RADIATOR HOSE ON THE 1995 CONTOUR

Hi:

Start with the engine cold, and drain the coolant out of the radiator into a clean pan. loosen the clamps on either end of the upper radiator hose. twist the hose loose, then install the new hose along with new clamps. Fill up the radiator, start the engine for a few minutes, then shut down and check the coolant level again, and top off as needed. After the engine is up to temperature, check for leaks again, and recheck the coolant level the next time the car is cold again.
