Where is the power steering fluid filter located on a 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 3.7 manual trans, 2-wheel drive?

Raise the front off the ground and start the engine, turn the wheel to the right as far as you can and then to the left do this repeatedly for about 10 times, make sure fluid is running through the system and there are no air pockets. Check the level after turning the wheel repeatedly. There are some technical service bulletins on this issue and it has been a problem for some time, there are a lot of complaints about lack of steering at low speed and rpm. all the info i have heard or found is to use ATF+4 all the auto manufacturers have replaced the ps fluid with ther type trans fluid supposed to perform much better

oil change every 3000 miles check all fluid levels at 24000 miles change trans.fluid and filter,fuel filter,air filter. at 30000 miles pack front wheel bearings service cooling system,replace spark plugs,inspect wires and pvc valve. lubricate the chassis every 6000 miles. hope this will help!!!

the 2004 Dodge Ram 1500 is noted for having a steering rack problem.

They make a machine to do this, but it is too expensive to buy for just one use. The best thing to do it to take off the power steering lines where the connect to the steering rack. Then start the truck and it will pump out the fluid in the reservoir. Feel free to keep adding fresh fluid to it while its running just to ensure all is out. Then, to get the fluid out of the steering box, connect the lines back up, fill the reservoir, and with the vehicle running, crank the steering wheel back and forth from lock to lock. This will take the fluid from the rack and eventually bring it back to the reservoir. You must then again disconnect the lines and flush it out of the reservoir. You may want to repeat this several times, it may take a long time, but will be cheaper than replacing the steering rack, box, pump, and lines. Good luck, and have fun. :-P

The power steering pressure switch is installed in
the power steering high-pressure hose (Fig. 9).

(1) Disconnect electrical connector from power
steering pressure switch.
(2) Place a small container or shop towel beneath
switch to collect any excess fluid.
(3) Remove switch. Use back-up wrench on power
steering line to prevent line bending.

If your car steering is groaning chances are you need the power steering pump repaced. Open the hood and look for fresh moisture and you can usualy trace it back to the leak.
Or take a large piece of card board and park the front of your car on it, trace around the front wheels and let it set unitl enough fluid is gatthered to identify color and texture, then take your car along with the cardboard to a service station you trust

step 1.Remove steering wheel horn cover
step 2.Remove steering wheel retaining nut (disconect airbag if so equipped)
step 3.Using moderate force remove wheel from steering column
step 4.Discard vehicle (donate,push off cliff,leave on train tracks,ect)
step 5.Purchase new vehicle (preferably a non-lemon)
step 6.Swap steering wheel with one from step 3
step 7.Enjoy the feeling of having "fixed" your auto troubles
