Manual. Clutch pedal very soft. Sometimes pedal stays down. Unable to change gears until engine stalls or is turned off. Worse in very cold weather. Fluid level OK.

Hi there i have had quite a few of these, just check the clutch master cylinder fluid you might find it is very dirty and may be causing the hydraulics to stick. Either the master cylinder or the slave cylinder may be sticking.

SOURCE: 2000 accent clutch is soft

There is a bearing that presses on flat springs of the clutch plate and slides back and forth on a hollow tube when you press the pedal. These can get fouled with road crud and then hang now and then when you press the pedal and perhaps not fully disengage the clutch as it should producing either a stiff action or even worse, the gnashing of gear teeth. Some bell housings have inspection plates that can provide enough access to use some cleaner/lubricant on the hollow shaft on which the 'throwout' bearing must slide.

SOURCE: clutch pedal is very heavy to push down

If the clutch in your car is hydralic there is no way to adjust that type of clutch. That you describe the clutch as being hard to push and that you have to have the clutch "right down on the floor to engage a gear" is an indication that the clutch is worn and needs to be replaced. If the clutch in your car is pushed by a cable, the cable might be adjustable and if that is the case you might get a few more months of use from the car, but the fix is still the same, you will need to get a new clutch put in your car.

SOURCE: engine stalling on a 2002 chevy tahoe z71

Still sounds like a fuel problem. Try a full tank of supreme gas, plus put a can of SEAFOAM into the tank to help clean you injectors. See if this will help clear up your problem. Did you change the plugwires????

SOURCE: to change gears, I need to fully press down on my

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

In a manual 2001 Hyundai Accent, the clutch cable could be adjusted. The adjustment point is on the cable 'pad' where it enters the firewall in the engine compartment.

To adjust, the slack or free play must be decreased. This is done by turning the adjusting nut clockwise. Check back by pressing on the clutch pedal to your preference.

Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Clutch problem on my 2011 astra

you forgot to say MANUAL transmission????????
and step #1 on all M/T box clutch pedal fails (say pedal see?
is the fluid for THE MC to slave cylinder is dry.
check fluid under hood for cutch MC, master cylinder above
the CLUTCH PEDAL it is.
if dry or very low, and goes lower the MC or SLAVE is bad.
i replace them both for faster longer service life./
the clutch bad can be variable until all fluid is lost
one key clue,is
is can not start the engine unless in Neutral.
or can not shift to 1st gear to move car. ,from neutral engine running
or all gears grind as you shift.
or the canary gear REVERSE loves to grind first is early warning of clutch failures.

a new MC and slave is cheap, do not buy a new transmission until MC and slave are proven good. first.

Under hot weather, my cayenne gear stay at 1 when I start the car (even on 5000rpm). need to use manual gear mode. After a while change it to auto gear mode operate back to normal. why?

When the engine is cold (even if the weather is hot) Cayennes start out in first gear. When it warms up a bit by driving, it will start in 2nd and won't go back to first until it's cold again.

I pressed on the clutch pedal of my 1986 Nissan 300ZX (manual trasnmission) and it stayed down after I removed my foot. Is the problem the clutch spring or could it be something else?

It's possible the fingers on the clutch plate are worn so bad that they grab the throw out bearing not allowing it to return to it's proper position. You may need to replace your entire clutch and bearing. It would be a good time to replace the input shaft bushing in the flywheel at the same time too.

Is it normal for the revs to stay up when changing gear in a 2002 4x4 3.0L turbo diesel navara?

do they revs drop off when taking pressure off accelerator pedal when out of gear? if only staying high during gear change it would suggest a worn clutch friction/pressure plate so the engine isn't slowing down when clutch is depressed .I'd also have the OBD codes read to see if there is a sensor/switch at fault , but sounds like the clutch to me

Clutch pedal is tight, stick shifter is tight. however it will not go into gear, with or without clutch pedal, and stays running, doesnt stall. new clutch three months ago

If your car wont go into gear when the engine is NOT started then you have a gearbox problem not clutch.you should still be able to get all gears without using the clutch pedal. The clutch is only there to stop you stalling when standing still,Its possible (but not nice)to drive and change gear without a clutch.Hope this helps.

Theres a problem changing gears, its a soft very low biting clutch peddle, unable to change down from high ratio gears to low ratio gears, having to knock into nuetral pump the clutch to select gears...

This sounds like you may have a leak in the hydrulics of the clutch, the clutch slave is not disengaging the clutch all the way, this is the reason for the low bite pedal and hard to get gears, the most common problem is the fluid is low due to a leaking slave cylinder, i would look around the clutch components for a leak, hope this helps.

Can you tell me why my car won't start unless it is put in gear with the clutch pressed in, also it stalls until the engine is warmed up?

The vehicle is fitted with a clutch switch for safety purposes, that is why the vehicle won't start without pressing the clutch. The cause of the engine stalling might be that the cold start ignition/ timing advance does not work as it is supposed to
