Dec 5, 2016 - Dec 5, 2016 - These Mustang fuse diagram are for a 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 Ford Mustang under the hood in the engine bay, .
SOUND LIKE YOUR HOOD LATCH IS STUCK IN THE RELEASE POSITION. YOU CAN DO TWO THINGS. REPLACE YOUR HOOD LATCH OR PUSH THE LATCH BACK INTO POSITION MANUALLY EVERYTIME YOU OPEN YOUR HOOD. IT'S EASY. FIRST CHECK YOUR HOOD RELEASE LEVER (DRIVER SIDE KICK PANEL)AND MAKE SURE IT'S MOVING FREELY. IF LEVER IS OK,GO TO YOUR HOOD LATCH. LOOK TO THE RIGHT OF THE LATCH (LOOK DOWN FROM THE TOP VIEW)AND YOU'LL SEE A SMALL METAL BAR WITH A SPRING PULLING DOWN ON IT(MIGHT NEED FLASH LIGHT TO SEE BAR AND SPRING). TAKE A FLATHEAD SCREWDRIVER AND PUSH DOWN ON THE METAL BAR WHERE SPRING CONNECT. THE BAR SURE MOVE ABOUT 1/4 INCH DOWN. CLOSE YOU HOOD AND YOU'RE DONE. YOU JUST HAVE TO PUSH THE BAR DOWN EVERYTIME YOU OPEN IT.
There are two rubber grommets located on the hood-one at each front corner. There are replacements that can be purchased at parts stores (Help brand-usually on those "spin-around-racks"-just ask parts guy you want hood bumpers. These come in different sizes (diameters)-the ones I found and used were a bit small. I used silicone to "fatten" them up. You will see they are adjustable by threading (rotating" them in the hole in your car's hood. What seems like your hood not latching is the hood is not held tight against the latch (constant pressure from the bumpers holding hood up). Your hood is just laying all the way down-you need the bumpers.
The hood latch is one mechanism controlled by a spring.
The cable is another mechanism to pull the latch. Open the hood to inspect the latch. If the spring of the latch itself is good then you don't have to worry about this after you close it. However you have to worry how to open it since the cable is not working. The cable has no tension due to a broken end. Need to replace the cable. The latch has 2 positions halfway and full way when closed. To have a peace of mind, have it halfway latched then tie a string from the hood latch to the grill for temporary until replacing the cable.
hey under the hood in the front there's a latch on the left side. you either wana push it down and use other hand to pull up the hood or it might be the other way; push it up then lift up the hood.
my latch is broken also and i opened it like that. i hope you find the latch =)
tre spring is on the latch itself,my guess is that the latch needs a little lube, work the area of the latch that the cable slides into with a screwdriver,it should spring back after you lube it
