Don't worry about the check engine light. The computer has to relearn the function of the new part. This could take 50 miles of driving the car. Be patient it will go off. Good Luck Friend.
It depends on how much oil and how long the engine ran if any. If you put in 2 quarts too much but did not start the engine, no worries. if you put in 2 quarts too much and drove it for 50 miles, you could have damaged some seals and they may start leaking. Odds are you did not damage anything internally.
Not for the faint hearted, any mistake with the belt can result in major engine damage. That said you need to remove all pullys, drive belts, Balancer, T/belt covers. At this stage you will see marks on the cam gear & crank gear you need to line them up to a specific spot. What car & engine is it?
20 w - 50 motor oil is a pretty heavy weight of a motor oil, normally engines either perform better on 5 w- 30, or 10 w - 30, if you have a owners manual , you can check in it to see what the manufacturer calls for , if you don't have a manual, then look on the oil cap, where you pour the oil into, it should have the information on the cap. there is even motor oils on the market specifically recommended for engines that have over 75,000 miles on them, one of them is valvoline max life. you will have to decide what kind that you want, thank you , and hope that this information has helped you.
If it isn't over heating it shouldn't be a problem unless you are seeing water in the engine oil. Add a 50/50 mix of Anti Freeze and water to the over flow bottle to the full mark and allow the closed circulation of the vehicle to bring in what it needs. It is designed to draw fluid from that bottle when needed. Always add fluid to the radiator through that unless you have drained the radiator for some reason. Any good Antifreeze will work. Personally I use Prestone and Prestone has a ready mix available as well to simplify the process.
Note : Valvoline SynPower Full Synthetic 20W-50 Motor Oil
System holds about 8 1/2 quarts
Once you are using a synthetic oil, that is the only oil you may use from know. Anything else WILL do damage to the seals in the engine. This engine also comes from the factory with synthetic oil. Use a Mercedes oil filter. Believe me please, there is a difference in how oil filters are made and an inferior oil or filter can cause major engine damage!
we use Fram oil filters and Valvoline oil 5-20 in our two taurus and 50/50 mix Prestone antifreeze and the brakes we get from NAPA and the NAPA oil is the same as valvoline and cheaper
