The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of the following components:
?€¢
The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid

?€¢
The body control module (BCM)

?€¢
The powertrain control module (PCM)

The BCM controls the voltage to the shift lock control solenoid through the shift lock control solenoid controlled voltage circuit. The following conditions must be met before the BCM will supply voltage to the shift lock control solenoid:
?€¢
The ignition is in the ON position.

?€¢
The PCM sends a class 2 message to the BCM indicating the transmission is in the PARK position.

?€¢
The BCM determines the brake pedal is not applied according to the stop lamp switch.

When the ignition is in the ON position, the ignition 1 fuse supplies voltage to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid as the BCM supplies a ground to the control circuit, mechanically locking the shift lever in the PARK position as the solenoid energizes. When the brake pedal is applied, the BCM turns the ground of the control circuit OFF, de-energizing the shift lock control solenoid. The de-energized solenoid releases the mechanical lock allowing the driver to move the shift lever out of the PARK position. When the transmission is out of the PARK position, the shift lock control solenoid remains de-energized.
Your best bet is to take it to the dealer ,may have DTC'S
DTC B2707 Gearshift Unlock Circuit Low
The body control module (BCM) controls the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid by providing a controlled ground to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The BCM utilizes a smart driver to monitor the voltage and current flow of the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid control circuit. DTC B2707 will set when the BCM detects a short to ground when the solenoid is in the OFF state.

2012 Chrysler Town and Country wont shift out of park

Probably a problem with the shifter interlock system . Won't allow the gear selector to move from park with the engine running unless the driver is pushing on the brake pedal . Locking solenoid in the shifter , brake pedal switch , wiring etc... may even have a body control module in the loop controlling these system . Do the brake light's work ? Some of these system's have a release point in the shifter assembly . Don't know if this is your problem without checking it out .

99 mercury mystique key wont turn engine to off

Is your Shifter all the way in Park? Try putting the Shifter in neutral to shut off the engine. If that works your key still won't come out but the car will not be running. If that worked then more than likely something is stopping your Shifter from going into park all the way. Try working the Shifter back and forth with you thumb on the button a couple of times to see if you can get it into park. Just remember the car can roll if it's not in park so use your parking brake if it works or get someone to block off the wheels (forward and back) while you hold the brake pedal.

did you wiggle the steering and turn the key and wiggle the shifter to park? at once.

there is thing called park lock out but works moving from P/N to gears active, R/D/L. usually going to N/P is no problem. unless cables are rusty.

My 1997 ford taurus wont shift out of park. The shifter seams to be stuck, it wont move. The shifter is on the steering wheel not the floor.

This is often a switch located on the brake pedal lever. The car requires you to press the Brake pedal before shiftting out of Park. You lose the signal when a foot hits or breaks this part. Look under the dash for the part and fix it.

My crysler 300 - C is stuck in park and wont let shifter move i move the pink pin under shifter plate left and right and still wont shift

This car uses a park lock system, it is operated by the brake light circuit, so is if the brake lights are not on when the pedal is pushed the park lock will not released. if the brake lights do work you have other more serious issues **** as a defective lock solenoid. The owners manual gives the bypass procedure around this problem, check the index.

Will not shift out of park

can you move the shifter and it wont go into gear or will the shifter not move at all?? if shifter wont move, there is an electrical solinoid that will not allow the shifter to release when the car is off, that could be faulty, i think it also has a safety mechanism that wont allow it to shift if your foot is not on the brake? if the shifter moves through prn321 but the trans wont come out of park, you have broken the shifter cableand or damaged the shifter mechanism in the trans. hope i have been of some assistance
