This may very well be akin to what BMW did, where the car recognises when the service is due and has a series of lights as a countdown to remind the driver. If you ignore the service due warning, the ECU (electronic control unit) will display such lights as you have described and make it difficult to drive. With BMW the ECU shuts down completely. You may get around the problem by using a reputable mechanic, rather than the dealership; good luck.
Reset Volvo service reminder indicator or maintenance messages after changing oil, filters and inspecting brakes and suspension.
Press and hold trip reset button,
turn on the ignition,
wait for the yellow warning light to start blinking,
release the button and wait for confirmations sound,
turn off the ignition,
turn the ignition back on to check if the service message is gone.
This procedure will reset messages:

I think you should go for manual first after that it would be easy for you to solve your problem. I had visited this site past 2 months before for my vehicle and find it quite helpful may be you will also get something useful here 2007 Volvo s80
Turn the ignition to position 1 push and hold trip reset while holding.Turn to position 2 hold trip reset till the service light flashes 3 times and then release. You should hear a beep to let you know it is reset. It might take you 2 times sometimes. If you have the message in the text window the little triangle in the center of the speedo assy. will flash. Also another trick to help you is when the milage returns the light should be reset. You may have to do this several time, I know I sure had to
Got this of a forum. It's for the key less cars. Credit goes to the original poster.

I've just reset the warning indicator with one try only
2008-2009 Volvos with starter push button on dashboard
The trip odometer must have at least 0.1 mile on it or the light will not reset. Get in vehicle and do not push down on the brake pedal Put the key in the slot and push the starter button once Press and hold down the odometer reset button While doing this, push the starter button again and hold for 2 seconds Keep the odometer reset button held in and watch the instrument cluster for the general warning indicator (I) to illuminate. When this happens, release the button. Turn the vehicle off then back on and verify the message is now out.
you need a technician with a diagnostic tool.. The thing about these cars is every time you do something you need to reset the counter on the cars computer.. This can only be done with a diagnostic tool
Put the key in the slot and push it in. With one hand press and hold the odometer reset button on the instrument cluster. With the other hand press the start button one time. Pause for one second and then push and hold the start button (with your foot off of the brake pedal) until all of the dash lights come on. Continue to hold the odometer reset button until the yellow triangle flashes. It will flash four times, release the button before the end of the fourth flash. Then turn the car off and remove the key. Reinsert the key and start the car. The light should now be off.
