Anti-theft system can keep vehicle from starting , Alarm is for vehicle content theft , open door without key alarm sounds (horns) ! PATS - passive anti theft system PATS enables and disables the engine from starting ,it will not cause the engine to die ! You have some other kind of problem ! If the vehicle engine doesn't turn over an red light on top of dash flashes fast ,then you have anti-theft system problem !
PATS differs from the perimeter anti-theft system in that PATS enables and disables the engine from starting. If equipped, the perimeter anti-theft system protects the perimeter of the vehicle (doors, hood and trunk) and sounds an alarm.
Hi Nina, there are a few different combinations depending on year and model of alarm, for yours could you try disconnecting the battery again, turn the ignition key to accessory.....the one before ignition start and then reconnect the battery. Let me know if it disables the beeps!
Look for yellow wiring. All manufacturers use yellow wiring for airbags. Removing any plug will cause the SRS light to come on. If this light is on the whole system is disabled until it is reset by a certified airbag repair man, usually the dealership. Probably the easiest way is to take off the steering wheel.
Could you explain more? I know mine did that. If you set the alarm off or unhook and reconnect the battery it will disable the computer and the car will not start. Try reconnecting the battery. That will set the alarm off then insert the key into the drivers door and turn it to disable. It could also be problem with the alarm system. Sorry if Im misunderstanding.
This sounds like the anti theft security system failing. Very common on GM vehicles, especially 80's Corvettes. The system was originally designed with a starter disable system if the security key was not correct. (or if it was being stolen) Corvette and Cadillac started using a fuel disable system since people would just the starter to steal them. The symptoms are exactly what you describe. Vehicle starts and runs for 1-5 seconds and then dies. It is actually turning off the fuel injectors. You may even see the security light turn on afterwards.

this system can be disabled, since these early systems are a real pain to calibrate and VERY expensive to repair have the dealer hook up a scanner and disable the TPMS (tire pressure monitor system)
Without the schematics for the alarm. I would look for the alarms controller /relay and remove it. Use fuse diagram in the owners manual to see whats stock and whats not if its an aftermarket alarm.
Try putting the door key in the passenger door and turn it to the right. This should disable the factory alarm.
Hope it helps man, drove me crazy with my '86 Vette.
