First of all . Make sure that the control arm bushings are good on the control arm. If they have any deterioration or cracking, it would be advised to replace the control arm assembly as it comes with a new ball joint. The price on the control arm assembly is about 55 dollars and the ball joint by itself is about 15 dollars.
The problem with just doing the ball joint is that it is riveted into the control arm and considerable time and special tools may be needed to remove the ball joint from the arm, and possible damage to the control arm can occur, The better process is to replace the control arm assembly.
Make sure to have alignment performed after replacing the parts.

I list a lower ball joint available to purchase.
So you would have to disconnect the lower control arm from the spindle to replace the joint.

Lower ball joint wear spec 2005 Silverado 2wd

There are several different wear specs regarding lower ball joints. The official manufacturer torque spec. for lower ball joint wear (For your truck) is 5 in lbs. The official wear spec. to pass the Federal State inspection is less than 1/16" of play at the ball joint (up and down and side to side). The official wear spec. for a front end alignment is zero play.

What is an occasional squeal or grind sound when i turn wheel on 2006 chevy malibu

Hi Willis,
It seems to be that the problem is with the ball joints of your car. Get the ball joints replaced asap. It will be a small repair.
If you ignore this, your rack ends, tie rods and camber will be have to replaced. That will cost about 200USD.

If the front of the car doesn't make a "Dug DUg " noise when going over small pot holes, then you will have only replace the lower ball joints.

After getting repaired I will suggest that you do a wheel alignment.
Also inspect for any uneven wear of tyres. That is also a good sign for the balls joints to be replaced.
Hope this was helpful

Lower balll joints to my 2002 lincoln ls are bad

You can purchase the lower ball join on ebay for around $70. The piece will simply "press in" just as any ball joint replacement would. Find a mechanic willing to do the work for you if you bring him the parts. Just go to ebay and search 2002 lincoln ls lower ball joint. It's a fairly small piece, but you'll have to have it installed by a professional. I just replaced mine...

Good luck!
