SOURCE: 98 gmc jimmy loses power to a stop

the fuel pump could actually be malfunctioning. and the reason that you are able to restart and drive again is because when you turn the key on it is allowing the fuel pump to pressureize your system. but while the fuel pump is continuasly running it is loosing the fuel pressure. this is common on the cheap fuel pumps. i am not sure about were you got the fuel pump from but in all of my experiances with this problem i find that the fuel pumps have been boughten at a napa store.
i hope this helps you out.
and you could attach a fuel pressure gauge on to the fuel rail and start the car and watch the pressure to see if it is droping.

Runs until it gets to running temp

Monitor fuel pressure in the fuel rail and verify that it remains in spec. The fuel pump may be intermittent, which is a sign that it is failing. Could be a fuel pump relay issue as well (cheaper!).

98 and 99 intrepid was manufactured with weak fuel pumps causing them to vapor lock try pouring cool water on the fuel rails on the intake to calm vapored gas then try to start it. Even the temp gauge at half way mark is probably still low on coolant causing engine to be warmer than normal causing the vapor lock to fix this problem replace the fuel pump with a 2000 or newer intrepid fuel pump that carries a little higher psi to prevent vapor lock from reoccurring this pump is compatible with your 98 it will plug right in

I have a 1986 454 C30 silverado dual fuel tanks . my fuel pump is split so got a new but the new 1 only has one 3/8 in port , and the old has two a 3/8 and 1/4 , is the 1/4 one a return line

Short answer, yes. It is to reduce the chances of a vapor lock forming by returning vapor and hot fuel back to the tank and keeping cool fuel circulating through the pump.

93 Chev.c1500 won't kick over

It could be the temp sensor switch. Fuel injected engines (most GM models) use the temp sensor as the choke sensor as well. I had a Buick that did the same thing and replaced temp sensor and worked fine thereafter.

Acts like vapor lock

when they went to fuel injection the fuel that was not used returned to the tank thus cooling the fuel and ending vapor lock, my question is did you do a fuel pressure test? and di you do a fuel leak down test? and the first thing I would do is change the fuel filter. with ethanol in the gas it kills the filter. I have to replace mine every three months they just plug up from that junk. Other than that the only other thing would be a coil breaking down when it gets hot the coil shorts out when cool it starts so check those things first. be sure fuel pressure is 50 to 60 PSI and does not drop below 30 PSI for at least a minute, if it does the fuel pump check valve is bad, also the fuel sock could be bad as well.
