Could it be reading in KM? Just possible because in 2995 even the Americans have finally converted to metric system.

It may take that long for conversion to take hold! Thanks for the chuckle.

SOURCE: 1998 honda accord speedometer wrong

I I recently went to a government speed awareness workshop (naughty boy!) and asked why all the cars I have recently driven (Vaux Zafira, Vectra, Astra, Honda Accord, Peugeot 106) were indicating a higher speed than my sat-nav. The answer they gave was that car manufacturers will always do this to err on the side of caution for boot-heavy drivers or drivers who neglect to check tyre pressures, so that in a court case they have one less thing to worry about. All these cars indicated about 5-10% over.

Either the gauge is bad, the cable is kinked or the speedometer connector is bad...at the tranny.

2005 Chrysler Pacifica. Fuel sending unit not working on it?

Clean the connector with electrical switch cleaner. A new sender is $110. A new pump and sender is $500.

2004 Chrysler Pacifica speedometer reads 20-30mph more than actual speed. Had new alternator put in from bearings in alternator were bad. Speedometer issue doesn't happen in neutral.

Info I have leads to alternator but have video which show how you can test alternator. One way shows to pull the wire connector off alternator the one which is plugged in, see if the speedometer is corrected. Diodes in alternator could have a problem you can check at battery with AC voltage check on volt meter. Output speed sensor on transmission reads in AC voltage and diodes in alternator could be putting out to much AC voltage wave. I know you said you put in a new alternator, you may want to take back to dealer and have retested.

Where is the out put speed sensor located on the transmission for the speedometer? Can you tell me were in the transmission.

If you are taking about the speedometer its in the transmission. If your talking about part of the ABS system there is one in each wheel hub.

My speedometer registers about 40 mph over actual speed. I have standard tires, no transmission work has been done, did have new rotors put on last week, but it worked fine for several days after that. ...

Check the wires to your wheel speed sensors. Sounds like possibly the connectors were not put on completely tight when doing your brakes...if they had to remove them. If not, you have a problem with one or all of those sensors. I believe you have 2.
