Try this first: Disconnect your battery and wait about 2-3 minutes. Then reconnect it and see if you can shift out of park.
If that doesn't work, you'll need to check the transmission fluid. It could be too low to provide enough pressure to switch gears. It'll need to be checked with the engine warm, idling.
If the transmission fluid checks out fine (it's not low or burned/dark colored), chances are there's a mechanical problem with the transmission or shift linkage. Keep in mind the fluid could also have metal and friction particles blocking the flow of oil through the channels, even if it looks ok.
Here are a few possibilities of what else could be wrong (not an all-inclusive list):
Manual Valve to Detent Lever Link (802) *Broken or missing *Disconnected from the manual valve
Manual Valve to Link Clip (801) *Disconnected
Manual Valve (800) *Stuck
Shift Linkage *Disconnected
Valve Body, Channel Plate and Case *Blocked fluid channels
sounds like the battery is flat or gone bad get it tested/ charged. try using jump leads to confirm the problem if the battery is ok try doing a battery reset ie disconnect battery for a about 10 minutes reconnect and retry reset park brake by working it on/off a few times with ign. on and foot on brake
sounds like the j gate is faulty poss the release solenoid or wiring from memory i think the signal to release the gearshift comes from the abs module on the can network.
Try this simple trick. Shut off every thing in your vehicle, radio, ac, lights, windshield wipers etc.Turn off the vehicle put it in park. Disconnect your battery , wait 5 minutes. Then Without turning any thing on leaving the vehicle in park reconnect the battery start the vehicle and let it Idle for approx 10 minutes. This allows your computer to reset all of your gauges. By assuring that everything is off your computer can concentrate on resetting everything correctly without missing a step . This will set your Idle and all of your Gauges. Whenever your battery is disconnected for what ever reason this step should be followed immediately upon reconnect.
Make sure you have brake lights, they system must see the brakes applied before the park lock will release. make sure the fuse you installed is good and has 12 volts at both sides of the fuse.
these have a safety system so the shifter won`t go into any gear unless the brake is pushed(indicating someone sitting in the drivers seat),if the brake lights aren`t working this indicates that the fuse that operates the shift lock solenoid and brake lights is not working and needs replacing.check the fuses and replace the fuse and things will probably return to normal.
A safety device called the "neutral safety switch" will not allow you to start your car unless it is in Park or Neutral. If you start the car in neutral be careful it doesn't roll by applying the park brake. Then service the shifter-clutch to repair.
sound like your brake switch or the fuse. you have to step on the brake to take it out of park and if it doesnt see that the brake is being pressed it wont unlock the shifter later paul
