My 2002 Jeep Liberty is making strange noise from the middle of the engine (by where the belts are). I just had my Alternator and all the belts changed. She's not over heating and other than the loud sound and a little steam that came out once she's been running fine. Do you have any idea on what it could be and will I be ok driving it to the Mechanic's ?

Steam is never normal. sorry !
use a $5 stethoscope and find object that make said noise.
or get it serviced,

i cant guess reality, not ever, that be god like.
but if you can get it to a shop and not overheat the engine
it may be ok.
but noises , can be very very serious.

the engine,.
the accessory parts can all make noise,
what makes noise is key here, and no net bunny on earth can guess it. it must be found. by a live human.

If you think it's the timing belt, get it replaced or inspected.

Even though there are other things that might make a noise, the damage you might do by having the timing belt fail while the engine is running are not worth the risk.

Check the front stabilizer bar and the bushings on it. It is located under the radiator with arms that bend back to each front tire.

SOURCE: My Jeep 2002 Engine is

Its hard to tell, but first most part I would get a second option on what is going on with the motor. 99% of the time your gas cap will not cause the engine light to come on at all. I don't believe Jeep Liberty's even have a sensor to detect that. Don't drive it, a clak clak clak sound coming from the motor it self could be as simple as adjusting a few things or something more serious. Good luck and feel free to ask more questions for help.

How do I know if my 2002 Jeep Liberty has jumped time or timing chain/belt broke?

WE INSPECT IT WITH MARK1, EYEBALLS (A MIL JOKE)
SCAN IT YET, SEE CAM, ERRORS. >> USING REAL SCAN TOOL.?
NO ENGINE TOLD 2.4l IS CAM BELT
VIN DIGIT #8 IS ENGINE CODE, NOT TOLD AND IS A PURE ENGINE QUESTION.
OR THE 3.7l LIKE MINE V6, ?
IF A CHAIN GOES BAD IT MAKES HUGE RACKET.
THAT MEANS NEVER RUN it LIKE THAT. EVER.
Both engines are interference, so driving them with bad cam drive
has huge risk of engine damage $3000 + bills, parts./labor

not told at all why? is engine acting odd. or makes nasty sounds.
or CEL lamp; on ? or other cluster errors glowing.
or what? what's up doc?

top evidences is lost power or engine destruction.
huge racket (noise max)
for the belt drive snapped, it makes noise only on destructiong
head valves hit piston, wrecked
why not get it serviced and ask the person live for advice.
ask the tech in a shop.
say check it out.

How do you loosen serpentine belt toreplace it

Typically you would loosen the mounting bracket on the alternator so that the alternator moves inward and releases tension on the serpentine belt. I found a video that might be of interest to you...
