An ECT sensor can throw a false hot signal causing a too lean command to the injectors . That can cause a long start .

If wiggling the wires cured the code, then one of the wires is broken inside the insulation. Pull on each wire one at a time. look for the colored insulation to stretch, this will be the broken wire. For the other car that wont rev up, this is a common when the catalytic concverter is plugged up. This will also cause MAF codes, and in turn, TRAC OFF light.

SOURCE: Code po101, hard start when hot (have to hold W.O.T. to start) & stumbles on accelertion. Changed MASS sensor, no help.

Basically this means that there is a problem with the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor or circuit. The PCM detects that the actual MAF sensor frequency signal is not within a predetermined range of the calculated MAF value for more than 4.0 seconds.  I would try cleaning out your MAF sensor with some carb cleaner and reseting the check engine light to see if it comes back on.  If it does, get back on here and let us know and we will walk you through some other things you can try.  Cleaning it out will be the easiest/cheapest thing for you to try right now.  Good luck.  Thanks for an honest rating and for using FixYa.

SOURCE: My 1998 ford mustang v6 3.8l .. is hard to start

So what you saying is it's hard to start cold right? Something in computer system not allowing excess fuel to injectors when cold. Probably sensor Get auto electrician to sort it out otherwise you end up replacing things that there is nothing wrong with They got the right gear

I got the code from the OBD IT read a code of 23 and one of 36 now i need to find what it means

code 23 is MAT too low.(mass air temp.) code 36 is Mass Air Flow Sensor Error

The ECM receives a signal from the Mass Air Flow sensor depending on the amount of air entering the engine. The ECM uses information from this sensor to help calculate fuel delivery and spark timing.

Fault Code Description

  • 36 - Mass Air Flow sensor error

    • Engine stalling

98 Jimmy has 5 codes (multiple misfire; egr; mass air flow; intake air temp; manifold pressure) Was dogging out on me and the other day it quit. Now it turns over but will not start. Checked and it is...

I would start with the Mass Airflow and EGR sensors first, because they can cause the misfire codes and the intake pressure and temp. Just because the air filter and hoses are clean and free flowing doesnt mean the computer can see that. If your Mass Airflow sensor died, as far as the computer is concerned, there is no air going into the engine.

      Car keeps dying

Trouble Code 33 and 34 are the MAF/MAP Sensor Circuit. It sounds like you've replaced that sensor already. Did you also have the code 34 before putting in the new sensor?
Or did this code start after it's replacement? Any other codes appearing?

Troubleshooting it would depend if it has the Speed Density Update. The dealer should be able to provide that info.

      Here's your fault code list:
