Check for fuel pressure / sound of pump going with key in the "on" position as it primes the fuel system. There should be a schrader valve on the end of the fuel rail, it's got a plastic cap on it - uncap it and depress the valve carefully ; if you have good fuel pressure it should be pressurized and come out fast. If not, bad fuel pump or fuel pump relay.
If you mean that you turn the key to start but the starter motor doesn't engage the flywheel until the key is turned to start several times, try this. Look under the front of the car and locate the starter motor, which will be at the front of the oil pan. Tap the end of the starter motor with the handle of a large screwdriver a couple of times. If the starter then engages, the starter motor is bad. What happened to the last 99 Caravan (w/175,000 miles) was that a large amount of oily gunk had made its way into the part of the starter that housed the motor brush ***'y, preventing the motor brushes from moving freely and keeping one or more of them from making contact with the armature. The fix was to spray cleaner into the unit. That freed up the brushes and allowed the starter to work. That was a year ago. If you mean that the motor turns over, but doesn't start until you have tried 3 or for times, then I suspect a fuel problem. I have seen a problem where the fuel drains out of the fuel line when the car is off so that repeatedly turning the key to start runs the fuel pump which must refill the fuel line before it can reach the engine. Check the fuel pump, the fuel pump relay, etc. Or, locate the fuel pump relay, under the hood, on the driver side fender. Carefully remove the relay and remove the black plastic cover by lifting the two tabs. Carefully reinsert the relay, sans cover, and have an assistant turn on the key. If the contact "pulls in" then have your assistant remove the gas cap and listen as you manually close the contact with your finger. ( It's okay, the 12 volts won't shock you!) If they can hear a whirring sound, then the pump is working. Have someone start the car while you keep the relay engaged. Hope this helps. Dano
When you turn the key to start what happens ? Does the starter engage an spin the engine ? This would be a crank - no - start condition . Or when you turn the key nothing happens ! This is a no - crank - no start condition . If the engine does spin when turning the key to start and it doesn't start an run you need to see whats missing - spark , fuel or compression . Videos on youtube showing how to test . You need to hook up a fuel pressure gauge to check for fuel . Just pushing the valve on the fuel rail isn't good enough . The fuel motor is part of the fuel pump.
The fuel pump has a fuel sender also as part of the pump. I would have you fuel pump check and changed at you local shop.
Turn on the headlights try to start if the lights go off or go very dull the battery most likely is flat
If the lights stay bright, make sure the transmission is in neutral and the park brake is on. Hold the key in the start position and let someone tab the starter motor with a hammer, often the tarter engaged, The problem in this case point to worn brushes.
it is a loose ground to the starter. look for a ground to the bell housing. chances are it's loose this is the ground for the solenoid on the starter. I had the same problem with my vehicle . please rate this thanks
