When I turn in my 2002 Honda Odyssey, the steering wheel makes a "vibrating/rubbing" noise. What might be causing this? Thanks.

consider it unsafe until you have the noise properly diagnosed by an accredited steering specialist shop

More than likely it is still the power steering pump. What is happening is the fluid is heating up and thinning out and cycling through the pump causing it to work normally. There is actually a SB about the hard steer at low speeds on the Odyssey - contact your local dealer and they should be familiar with this issue.

I'm thinking your power steering rack needs servicing! may be air in the hydraulic lines. did it start right after you replaced the pump? did you run the fluid resivour dry by any chance?

whining noise check the power steering pump check tires again but if pump failing can cause pulse in steering

can you video it? could be many things could be a wheel bearing

like a bad tire or out of round tire..it will make a slight thumping sound while driving..and maybe shake the entire car at low speeds or shake the steering if in front..

The vibration and rubbing may be separate issues. There could be many causes for vibration, ranging from low fluid, sticky rack valves, etc., to the tires simply grapping and releasing on the pavement. If it only does it under heavy use, such as when standing still and turning alot, then I suggest not doing that. It is hard on a car to turn the steering wheel when the car is not moving.

This sounds like a wheel bearing close to complete disintegration. I advise you get the front end free of the ground so you can check for it by grasping the wheel and attempting to rock it from side to side. It isn't hard to imagine that if it is indeed that worn, that the wheel could separate possibly taking the axle and CV joint with it. Don't take any chances - it's urgent that you find the problem quickly.

Check the U-joints and axle baerings. But its most likely because the truck is in four wheel drive.

Hi , aparentlyyour mechanic just dont want to check nothing else,any new noise should be checked before major damage may happens,the first noise sounds like the new timing belt is rubbing the cover because they removed the alternator and air conditioner belts to install the timing belt ,may be that they did not re install everything right the way it was.......
