2006 pt cruiser gear shift button stuck n can't completely take key out..but button pops up on all other gear except p n 1

If no motor mount broken
linkage feel loose
syncroniser is gone inside the gear box

You need to replace the brake transmission shift interlock solenoid. This may mean replacing the whole shifter mechanism. The solenoid the locks the shifter has failed and is stuck.in the unlocked position.

I had almost the same problem, I checked to the bushing on the shift cables and they were gone. I found the kit at orielly's auto for $8. its a manual cable bushing kit

Most times that will only happen if the shift rail isn't adjusted right or if the internal fork that moves the synchro or the synchro itself is worn, all of the above preventing complete gear engagement. If all other gears are normal it's safe to assume that the problem is inside the transmission.

sounds like you have broken shifter cable..if you remove battery and tray..you can see if cable is moving shift lever on trans..if it is,you may have something broken in trans on valve body

YOU CAN RE-CALIBRATE THE CLUSTER BY HOLDING DOWN THE TRIP SET BUTTON WITH THE KEY OFF THEN TURN THE KEY ON AND RELEASE THE TRIP BUTTON. THIS WILL PUT THE CLUSTER IN SELF DIAGNOSTIC MODE AND SHOULD CLEAR UP YOUR PROBLEM. MAKE SURE TO LET IT RUN TO COMPLETION BEFORE TURNING THE KEY OFF OR TO START THAT WILL ABORT THE TEST
