If it is atoll a stock pump, It is a mechanical pump that is driven by a lobe on the camshaft as the engine turns over. With it in the vehicle install a temporary "T" connection in the fuel one between the Fuel pump and the carburetor, and connect a fuel pump vacuum gauge combination gauge to the "T" connection. Then crank the engine over, there should be a pressure reading on the test gauge. The proper pressure reading should be between 5.5 4 and 6.5 PSIG if memory serves. When you stop cranking the engine the pressure should hold pressure. If it bleeds off it means the carb seat is leaking or the fuel pump check valves are leaking. If the carb seat is leaking the fuel will be overflowing in the carb, look to see if that is the case. If there is no fuel leakiage into the carb and the pressure bleeds off the fuel pump check valves are bad and the pump should b rplaced.

I had the same problem until I changed the wire harness to the pump. Also the relay under the hood shorts out often and needs to be replaced. Since I did those two things no problems for over a year.

try to smack the gas tank with a rubber mallet with someone cranking the key .if it starts then the pump is no good .otherwise the relay should be on the pass side of the firewall.poss under a long black cover.the fuse will be in the fuse box under the hood on drivers side. var fctb_tool=null; function FCTB_Init_0b704873de9943d2aa9b1abbb4656a28(t) { fctb_tool=t; start(fctb_tool); } FCTB_Init_0b704873de9943d2aa9b1abbb4656a28(document['FCTB_Init_72d341bf61da4120a5167e6de35ebcf0']); delete document['FCTB_Init_72d341bf61da4120a5167e6de35ebcf0']
