You should check the cabling, from the steering wheel, where you can press the hooter, till the hooter. I think one of the cables is blank. But if your not technical enough please visit a technician. Perhaps other cables are lose or bad too.

SOURCE: my bmw x5 3d relising so much smoke from exust

Just had my car in the garage with horrendous white smoke coming from the exhaust. The problem with mine was a blocked crankcase breather. When blocked oil is passed into the exhaust system apparently.
Problem solved by the mechanic and half a day in the garage with the engine running to burn off the excess oil in the exhaust and the problem was solved. Had gentle ride out to the coast yesterday approx 1.5 hrs each way and the smoke has gone.
Good result for £160.00. I dread to think what the dealer would have charged.

SOURCE: brake light came on on my 2003 BMW X5. Instrument

there is a sensor on the brake pads on bmws that check for noise and when the sensor hears noise it is telling the car that the wear indicators on the brakes are hitting and causing noise because the brake pads(lining) is low, means check your brakes the pads are low and if you dont check them soon you will have no pads left and my grind the pads metal to metal against the rotors,so all it is saying is you may need new brakes because they are worn out
hope that helps,,,

SOURCE: bmw 2001 4.4 x5 sensor

You will need to replace the oil level sensor. It is located on the bottom of the the foward oil pan. Do it during a oil change, you will have to remove the oil first. Here is a link to the part at Bimmer Specialist. Call and make sure it is the correct one before you buy. Good Luck.

SOURCE: check brake linings light on

One of your wheel sensors has triggered - needs brakes OR sensor has come undone. Sensors are on left front and right rear calipers. Brake light is on = low fluid. Get your brakes checked

Sensitive hooter bmw x5

Sounds like worn contact points beneath your air bag OR lose horn connecting plate.
If you are a or know a handy man that can take apart your steering wheel without the airbag going off (not always advised) then you will then be able to make the connections more solid.

Why, after hitting a bump in the highway and braking at the same time, did my brakes fail - how can I fix this dangerous situation - my mechanic is baffled?

has your vehicle got ABS braking system ? if so i'd get the OBD codes read if not already done as may be a sensor/switch that is sending an incorrect signal to the brake system after the bump at the same time , there is sometimes a brake limiter valve fitted to the rear suspension ,if your vehicle has this component i'd have that checked as the suspension will obviously rise/fall when going over bumps , let me know how your mechanic responds to these suggestions

Front end rattle that goes away when brakes applied

the squeaking sounds like a wheel bearing going bad. And the pulling to one side is cause by unequal braking pressure caused by plugged rubber brake hose, bad calipers or wheel cylinders. Check the bearings by lifting the car with a jack, block the wheels, and use a jack stand for safety. now wiggle the tire around. If it has any play, the bearing is bad. Replace it. I would replace your brakes as well. Good luck

This sounds like a low-brake-fluid-pressure symptom. Check brake fluid. Next check for leaks.

More info?, let me know...
