Check engine light comes on, then car starts jerking at about 60mph or and when first accelerating from stop, runs fine otherwise. light eventually goes off and car runs fine again. codes have been the one that usually means your gas cap is loose and one that I think was cam position sensor or something like that. Mechanic was unable to reproduce problem and says cam sensor thing looked ok (took off, cleaned, replaced, didn't charge me anything). I don't know if it's relevant, but car bumper and grill were damaged in any icy road accident this past winter, and problem had not occurred before that.
You have an intermittent problem, and it's probably going to be horribly difficult to track down. Your best bet might be to borrow an OBDII scan tool so you can read the codes while the problem is happening.
That mechanic who visually inspected your camshaft position sensor apparently doesn't understand that the sensor can LOOK just FINE while at the same time it's as dead as a doornail. You might try having that one sensor replaced, just to be sure.

fuel cap is just one of the causes. Here are 2 others:
NVLD switch communicates with your car's computer. A bad switch will throw a P0457 error code. Check for a vacuum leak 1st but if none is found, the NVLD switch should be changed.
Below is a link that explains more thoroughly what the module does; I do wish you the best of luck with your Neon and hope you found this information helpful. Take care!

the cam sensor definitly can cause the problem. pull the trouble code and make sure the check engine light is for the cam sensor. if so, replace it and retest

you have to get scanned for fault codes..possible camshaft sensor if you have starting issues..if car is working fine, could be an evap leak..let me know

I had the same problem with my '05 Stratus SXT 2.4 DOHC. I've replaced the cam pos sensor and it seems to be running fine right now. On the Dodge forums a lot of the guys say that you need to replace the crank pos sensor too. I've bought one of those just in case it comes back again. Hope this helps.
