Trailer brake controller problem

I installed a trailer brake controller in my 2003 GMC Sierra 1500HD that has factory installed tow package. The manual button on the controller will apply the trailer brakes but applying the brake pedal does not activate the trailer brakes. Without the trailer attached, pushing the brake pedal lights the left and right brake lights but not the high center light. Pushing the manual switch on the controller will light the center light but not the left or right brake light. What should I do?

I found the problem. It was a burnt out fuse for the CHMSL.

I found the problem. Talking with a technician from the controller company, we determined that it was a fuse problem. I found that the fuse to the CHMSL was blown.

How do you find out if you have the wires for a tow package? Trying to hook up a trailer with electrical brakes.

The wires would be secured under the rear of the truck. However trailer wiring is only for trailer lighting. Electric trailer brakes require a trailer brake controller.

My trailer wiring on my 2001 gmc sierra works i just dont have brake lights. all the lights on the truck work. its a 7 pin factory install ive never had problems until now. ive checkd all the fuses and...

First replace the trailer light brake/turn signal fuses. I have seen where the fuse will show good, but loose connection in the block. You can easily do it by using the flashers. Using a test light you can check power in and out of the fuse. Just touch the tester to the metal pin on top of the fuse... on both sides. Power in and power out. If power is there on both sides and still nothing below the fuse box, the box is bad. Not a common problem. Also check http://www.etrailer.com/faq-wiring.aspx.

I do not have power on the aux. terminal in the trailer plug on a 2008 dodge ram. Any ideas?

You have got 7 pin trailer connector that was included in the optional trailer tow package. This trailer tow package also includes an electric trailer brake wiring provision that terminates at a connector located on top of the large body harness connection under the instrument panel to the left of the break pedal, as well as an electric trailer brake pigtail harness and an instruction card that are stored in the glove box when the vehicle is shipped from the factory. You will need to add an electric brake controller of your choice that will plug-in to the harness and that will also give you power on your auxiliary circuit.

Constant voltage on brake controller pin at connector.

you should not have voltage unless you apply the brakes on the vehicle or the brake controller. the only constant voltage you should have is the charge line on the 7-way.

Call the dealer and tell them your concerns so that they may troubleshoot and correct the problem. They should have checked it themselves to insure they did a proper job.
