Unscrew the rocker cover and remove the top casing, most cars now have gasket seal rather than a gasket so check this. Put new gasket in place and then replace top casing, replacing the bolts back in the order they should be in, then put rocker cover back on...

SOURCE: blown head gasket

I would change both, as well as use new head bolts. Make sure your heads are not warped or cracked, especially the one that is leaking. There may not be any need to change the head if it is not cracked. These are prone to blowing a gasket especially after 150K miles or so. It will not cost a huge additional amount to change both head gaskets since the engine will have to be disassembled down to the heads anyway. Hope this helps you, Rick

Can I remove my heads and check the gaskets for damage. If they are in good condition, can I just reinstall the head and re-torque it down?

It's not recommended. Replace the gasket AND head bolts. A re-used gasket won't seal properly.
The head bolts are designed to stretch to to maintain torque settings.
So old ones are very likely to snap.

Stalling and running rough - Hyundai Elantra - 2001-05

The Hyundai Elantra 2001 - 2005, 2.0 L engine is noted for this problem. It will lack power on acceleration and run rough and stall while driving. The engine light will come on for misfire codes. This problem is caused by a vaccum leak at the intake manifold gasket. The gasket is broken and needs to be replaced.
To replace the intake gasket with a new one, remove the 12m nuts holding the intake to the cylinder head. Then pry back( note: you do not have to completely remove the intake manifold here) the intake manifold to gain excess to remove the old gasket. Remove any excess gasket and clean with brake cleans the surface area of the intake. Install the new intake gasket on to the head and carefully install intake on to cylinder head studs. Tighten up nuts gradually and evenly to 15-20 ft.lbs.

Blocked cooling system most likely a stuck thermostat. The coolant is not circulation therefore not getting to heater core. Replace thermostat and it should be fixed

What can happen if on a hyundai matrix 1.6 the oil pump fails

that doesn't sound like a oil pump. if the car is overheating and the engine shuts down. Most likely you have blown a head gasket or jumped time. i would go with the head gasket if its overheating. hopefully its just the gasket and not a worped head.

How hard is it to replace a head gasket on a hyundai lantra

Most head gaskets are straight forward. If you can replace one on a front wheel drive Ford you can replace about any front wheel drive head gasket. The only difference would be where the bolts are to remove the intake and exhaust. After that everything else is about the same. The best advice i can give is take time to read a manual like Haynes. They have manuals for just about every vehicle on the market.

Engine burning smoke from underside, temperature gauge going up hyundai accent 1997

Smoke could be caused by a leak from head gaskets, replace head gasket, k. Temperature increase could be caused by a defective thermostat or a slightly plugged radiator. Clean radiator and thermostat.
