Check fuel pump and filters in the trunk ,on some models there is a filter that blocks off inside the tank.

"Vapor lock" is a condition that occurs when fuel becomes heated to the point of evaporation. If your vehicle is truly vapor locking, it means that something hot is coming in contact with your fuel line somewhere, overheating the gasoline to the point of it vaporizing. This is HIGHLY UNLIKELY. If you truly do have a vapor lock condition, find out where the fuel is becoming heated and fix that condition.
On a 1997 Jaguar XK8, it is FAR more likely that you have a bad fuel pressure regulator or a bad ICU.

doubtful that vapor lock is an issue on a fuel injected car. it was something that happened on old vehicles, and you just don't hear about it any more. It doesn't happen because of the high fuel pressure in the fuel lines of fuel injected vehicles. If the vehicle is cranking and won't start, it might be a fuel issue--getting no fuel because of a fuel pump issue. But not vapor lock.

Vapor lock, from my experience, is a pretty rare problem. Unless you have put too much starting fluid in through the air intake. If you have not tried to use starting fluid, you should try to spray some through the airfilter, or the air intake for the motor, while someone is trying to crank it. Do not over-saturate it, or it will cause vapor lock. (vapor lock is all fuel vapors and no air). I have a suspicion that a few squirts of this will get it to fire up. If it starts but then goes out after the starting fluid is burned up, then you may have a problem with the fuel not getting to the engine.

How do you fix vapor lock?
Vapor lock is more or less impossible with a fuel injected engine.
Years ago when engines used a carburetor, liquid gas flowed thru the line from the tank and sat in the bowl of the carb until it was pulled thru the venturi into the intake. If the fuel line or carb became too hot, the liquid gas would vaporize.
Fuel injectors accomplish the same effect by spraying a vapor of fuel into the cylinders under pressure.

Vapor lock only when hot outside.
I understand what you are describing, but keep in mind it is almost impossible to have an actual vapor lock on a fuel injected vehicle.
Vapor lock is when the gasoline in the fuel line turns to vapor before it gets to the engine.
I am assuming your Ford is newer than 1982 and has fuel injectors.
In your case it could be a vac leak or something making the fuel mixture too lean. A problem with the EGR valve or other component could cause the issue.
Is the check engine light on ?
