Trying to find the water pump

On cars that have a timing chain, the water pump is usually mounted on the front of the engine block and is driven by the drive belt. On most cars that have timing belts, the water pump is mounted on the front of the engine as well, but driven by the timing belt and is concealed under the timing belt cover. It is always recommended that the water pump be replaced whenever the timing belt is done because due to variations in timing belt tension, if you reuse the old water pump on a new timing belt, the average life span of the water pump can be measured in weeks. Some folks think that the repair shop is just trying to milk more money out of them, but this is one case where they are right. If you go cheap (and really, the difference in parts is usually after 40-50 USD with about the same amount in additional labor), you will wind up spending the full labor cost of a timing belt job again in a few weeks to replace the pump.

How to fix a 2002 mitsubishi galant water leak

Depends upon the source of the water leak. Common places to leak are at hose connections, the radiator core, the heater core, or the water pump. Once you have identified the source of the leak, repair or replace parts as needed. If you have a 6-clyinder model, the water pump is located behind the timing cover, driven by the timing belt. Many owners believe that the repair shop is trying to rip them off when thy recommend water pump replacement at timing belt replacement time and opt not to do it since the pump is working. Unfortunately, the new timing belt will cause a different wear pattern on the pump shaft and almost unfailingly, the pump will leak within a few weeks or months after the timing belt is done. Many shop now refuse to replace the timing belt without water pump replacement for this reason, or will make the owner sign a waiver of responsibility if they refuse the additional service/cost.

I need to change the fuel pump I think. Car quite while driving, still cranks but wont start. 208K. Can't afford the shop. Can I do it myself? I am a contractor so not completly mechanically inept.

you can get aftermarket pump from auto parts but you need correct part number off of yours. There was an update and TSB concerning those pumps and senders. Doesn't really sound like fuel pump. Check that you didnt break your timing belt.

Water Leaking from belt side of engine on a 1996 Camry.

hi, is it just water? or does it look more like coolant? if just water, and seems to only leak when a/c or defrost is used, this would likely be the evaperator drain tube letting moisture out. this is normal. but if looks like coolant(reddish pink, or possibly green) this likely means you have a leaking water pump. the water pump is driven by timing belt which is located behind the timing cover directly behind the drive belts. if/when you go to get it repaired, the timing belt should be replaced at the same time. also, you may want to have the timing belt tensioner, and timing belt pulleys relpaced at this time as well, it's good insurance for any repairs that may be needed later down the road after service. make sure to have the drive belts checked when repairing timing belt, they will be removed during repair, if they need to be replaced due to wear, re-install new ones at no extra labor charge.

Changing water pump 2000 ford focus

Changing a water pump is pretty basic. Since the coolant system is a closed system you only need to be concerned with that system. For instance you since you have to mess around with it anyway you might as well change the thermostat and flush the coolant system. Make sure your radiator hoses are in good shape and that's about it.
If you have basic mechanical skills and tools you will have no problem replacing a water pump.

As far as information with the actual replacement there are a number of experts here including myself that could explain how to do it.
However no matter how good our explanations are it just can't compare to a good repair manual.
A repair manual for your car at Auto Zone would likely cost between $12 and $15. It is a great investment if you are going to keep your car for any length of time. When you sell, it shows the buyer you took the time to maintain and repair it right.
I personally like Haynes Manuals.
I hope this helps.
