1980 ford f100 Why is it not getting 12 volt for start

I have somewhat of the same problem but not really. I would check the fuse but you have probably done that. I would run new medium grade wire from powerpoint ( 12V source ) that is hooked up to your ignition. Then run to your choke wire. you can also do a manual set of the choke to get it started. My choke doesn't work at all and needs to be replaced. Having the same starting problem though.

Have you checked the starter solenoid? Replace this and see if you're getting fire then. They are usually suspect and the first link in the chain between your battery and the distributor.

yeah with motor mount change & trans. mount change little bit of wiring issue it will run fine. they put chevy engine in ford mustang all the time that why they run run so quick

If it is a manual 4 speed + reverse then you have a problem with the reverse lock-out. If you took the plug out on the drivers side to add fluid then you lost some pieces in the bottom of the tranny. The correct fill plug is square and on the passenger side. I know because I just did it to my own truck 30 mins ago. Shifter moves into reverse but does not engage. Ill let you know if i fixed it with out having to r/r the tranny.

My 1980 Ford f100 sounded like it might have been overheating at road stop and 100• .then just shut down. Next day it turns over but won't start. No leaks that I can tell. Any ideas
The first thing to do is check for ignition spark. The distributor Hall effect pickup is notorious for failing and the ignition control module as well. If that is the problem do not go cheap, you will regret it. By Motorcraft. You can get the parts at a good price from my favorite parts store. www.rockauto.com

My son has a 1994 ford taurus we replaced the distributer cap and wired and it still stalls when driving and sometimes won't start back for sometimes a couple hours. What could be the problem?
check that the coil is the correct voltage in use start/ run 12 volts or start 12 volt run 7.5 volts ( a 7.5 volt running on 12 volts= faulty ignition resistance wire == all the time will fail from over heat condition)
next feel the coil when it stops --it should be warm but not hot to the touch
next test/ replace the ignition control module
These items will loose capacity to operate if they get too hot from component failure but in cooling down will again work until they get hot again

I have a 1980 Ford F100 Ranger. Problems with starting the truck after a run.
it can be hard to diagnose without seeing the problem for myself, however ive seen faulty torque converters do this. pretty much the transmission is stalling the motor because the torque converter isnt working right, after it sits for a few and some of the air bubbles work thier way out it will start back up..

The firing order is:

1 5 3 6 2 4

Below is a picture of the cylinder order and the distributor. Number 1 cylinder is at the "white" location on the distributor. Good luck.

The F100 ended in 1983, so there is some confusion on your 1987 Ford F100. The F150 started in 1983 and was available in 1987, but not the F100. You have this listed under the 1981 Ford F100 category.
The 300 CID = 4.9L In-Line (Straight) 6-Cylinder.
