I would suspect a bent valve or two when the belt snapped. Verify the belt installation is correct and the timing marks line up. Do a compression test. If a valve is bent, the head has to come off and the valve(s) replaced.

air will always travell to the hiest point possible,  if thermostat is in hand fill the engine untill it stops bublbling, connect ya hoses back up, run ya car and leave the radiator cap off for a couple of cycles of the thermostat functioning and it's done, just make sure you got enough water in the block before tou start engine, possible to blow a headgasgit, dont even need thermostat, leave it out and have cooler water circulating fulltime thats what i've done to mine never had issues with engine temp after that
