Why does the security light flash even when key is on and engine will not start?

Engine cranks but will not start. Fuel pump is not turning on and injectors are not firing.

The security light flashing is the indicator. The fuel pump is disabled by the ECU because the immobilizer system does not recognize the transponder chip inside the key.

There could be several causes.
a. Either the transponder chip inside the key is bad, not programmed, or missing
b. The antennae that is located around the ignition lock is bad and/or not reading the transponder chip inside the key.
c. There is a wiring issue between the ECU and antennae.
d. The ECU is bad

You may want to seek out a qualified mechanic or automotive locksmith for help, not all mechanics and/or locksmiths are capable of handling the immobilizer systems on these vehicles. So be clear when discussing your problem to them and make sure they are capable of handling this type of problem.

If the key is not original, check to see if it is a cloned key. Some cloned keys use batteries, when the battery inside the key dies, it no longer communicates with the vehicle. Although it's not common, regular transponder chips can go bad, usually due to physical damage.

An immobilizer transceiver coil tester can be used to test the signal from the antennae at the lock cylinder.

If the ECU is determined to be bad, a used ECU with matching part numbers can be used as a replacement. Contrary to what a dealership or some shops may tell you, all that is required is an immobilizer reset service on the used, replacement, ECU to get it to function with your vehicle. A used ECU and an Immobilizer Reset Service is much cheaper than a new ECU from the dealer. Make absolutely sure that this is the problem before going this route though.

Check the fuel pressure. A slight dip in pressure will keep the engine from starting. When is the last time you did a tune up? Even if you are getting some spark you might not have enough. New plugs, wires, distr. cap could solve this problem. Or try a new fuel filter. When diagnosing a car problem always do simple cheap things first, as this usually ends up being the cause.

2004 Ford Mustang won't turn over.

You say 'won't turn over'. Do you means the engine is not cranking (turning over), or do you mean it cranks but doesn't 'start'? Did you disconnect the battery when you installed the fuel pump.

The flashing anti-theft light may be a clue here.
  1. Insert the key into the driver's side door lock.
  2. Turn the key once, but not all the way to unlock the door. Leave the key in this position for 40-60 seconds. ...
  3. Do this again, but turn the key in the opposite direction.
  4. Remove the key from the door, get into your Ford, and start the engine. The system should be reset.

Or there are videos. You should also check for DTCs, diagnostic trouble codes.

Just replaced the fuel pump in my 03 Toyota Matrix, car still doesn't want to turn over. What else could be the problem?

Explain doesn't want to turn over ? If the engine cranks when key is turned to the start position . You have a cranks but won't start an run condition . When you say it won't turn over , we as automotive technicians think the engine won't do anything when the key is turned to the start position. We don't just replace parts with out doing testing on the electrical circuit for the fuel pump , an hook up a fuel pressure gauge to test fuel pressure . It has to have spark , fuel an compression for the engine to start an run . Also the anti-theft system can't have any problems . Is there a security light lit on the Dash ? Car dies.no security light flashing, engine cranks but no starts, fuel pump does not run, next day starts up.Any idea?

fuel pump
,It could be a weak, faulty fuel pump, try this next time no start happens, try key on and off 5 times, without starting and wait 10 seconds between cycles. This sometimes brings the fuel pump prime up to pressure and engine will start.

My 2007 Suzuki forenza will turn over good but will not start fuel pump new but when you turn switch on can't hear it hum gas getting to injectors reckon it could be anti theft security please thanks

Is there a SECURITY light lit on the dash ? All anti-theft systems warn you some how if a problem is present ! The fuel pump only comes on for two seconds with key on ! When cranking the engine over if a crank pulse is see by the engine computer it will energize the relay turning on the fuel pump ! You have to check the fuel pump electrical circuit from the fuel pump relay !

Check your Fuel Lines and your Fuel Pump. (I just fixed a problem with my 2001 Isuzu Rodeo Fuel Return Line).

Also remember that in Rodeos, as soon as you turn your car key to turn the ignition on (just to make the dashboard lights go on) a certain amount of gasoline gets pumped to your engine in preparation of you turning the key all the way to crank the ignition and start the car. In other words, even before you turn the key all the way to crank the ignition, the Fuel Pump will pump some gasoline through the Fuel Lines to your engine (it will pump the gasoline for about 4 seconds then stop). So when you go to start your Rodeo, remember to turn the key with one continuos motion so that you start the ignition cranking while the gasoline is being actively pumped.

In addition, you should never turn the ignition lights on without turning the key all the way to start the engine. Doing so could cause that bit of gasoline that was pumped to start the engine to just sit there and create problems.

Chevy blazer problems

Does sound like the fuel pump if it started after tapping on it,but the security light is a different problem. That will also kill the fuel, but if you drove it home, that problem must have started after you got home. Not sure what year it is but if it has a chip in the ign. key,try a different key,if there is no chip run the pass key relearn .
Takes about a half hour, make sure the battery is fully charged and try to kill the daytime running lights if possible,(maybe set the parking brake, some trucks that shuts off the DRL)
Then crank the engine, leave the key on(as if it was running) after about 10 min the security light should go out. When it does turn the key off and crank it again, same deal, key left on for 10 min. till the light goes out. Have to do this 3 times ,should start on the 4th attempt. That will reset the security , but if the pump is bad it still may not start, the security light should be out tho.
When the pumps wear out the brushes you can get them to run once or twice by tapping on the tank, sometimes, but it sounds like a pump as in order.

I have a 2001 honda civic that wont start it turns over but wont fire, no check engine light, no codes, fuel pump working, battery is good all power works. it has no fuel or fire when trying to turn over. ...

If it were the immobilizer, you would have a security light that would be flashing or staying on all the time the key is in on. Since the engine cranks over and the pump is working when you turn the key to on and start, the green light may just mean the bulb is burnt out or a connection problem with that wire for the light. Not much of a problem there.
You said no fuel or fire when trying to start-so that is where to concentrate: you first need to verify that the ignition still is working, so check for spark on a plug wire with the engine cranking over. This could be a main fuse or main relay not passing power on to the ignition system and/or the injector circuit. First check for spark, and if you have spark, check the injector circuit (there is a fuse for the injectors-probably under the hood in a fuse/relay block). If you have no spark, you will have to diagnose the ignition system- coils, ignition control module (the ignitor), the crank angle or crank position sensor, finally the engine computer.
