High pitch noise under hood 2003 ford ranger when excelarating

  • stephen peirce Nov 14, 2016

you must take off belt and check the belt tensioner pulley and the idler pulley by actually holding the pulley's in your hand and putting one finger through the center hole and spin it on your finger and also turn the inside with your finger this is so you can feel any vibration coming from it there should be 100% smooth feeling no catching in the movement if there is the inside has dried up and the ball bearings are worn and catching which will cause the load whining noise at high rpm's if you don't find this at those pulley's bearings there is one more to check after reassembly of the pulley's and belt start the engine and let it idle fi you still hear it now turn on the a/c and see if it gets worse/louder while at idle if so now it should get a lot louder when you step on the gas and this whining noise will be the bearing in the a/c drive pulley which needs to be changed you can do it yourself without taking the compressor out in some cases Good Luck Stephen

Vacuum leak around inlet manifold or hose, spray around with D 40 or similar, engine will speed up when you find the leak. DO NOT spray around hot exhaust or you will have a fire.

Could be the electric fuel pump if so equipped. What area(s) of the car the the fuse control, that should give you a hint. Some cars have a fuel pump system that the pump kicks on and off to keep proper fuel pressure up in the fuel lines. If not working right will run battery down in a few days.

SOURCE: high pitch noise under hood not belt

It could be the IAC (idle air control) valve that is mounted on the throttle body. There was an update for these as some of them made a very loud whistling sound when they got a little older.

SOURCE: 02 Ford Ranger has no power and high pitch squeal under hood

The alternator or ac is dragging down the serpentine belt ?

You could take the belt off and see if the noise stops.

High pitched noise and Rattling in gear box.

sound like main shaft bearing assuming it is manual( if it comes on all the gears)

if it is automatic it must be your torque converter bearing

High pitch noise under the hood

Sounds like your serpentine belt is slipping try checking your belt tension with engine off if ok replace belt or purchse belt dressing spray at your local parts house.

High excelaration in different gears also in neutral the rpms go real high, when stopped at a light the car tries to drive

check the throttle cable under the hood where it connects to the throttle body...it may have jumped off track. also, check for a loose vacuum hose

High pitch noise seems to be steering and temperature related.

I have a 2003 Ford Windstar also. You probably will need to replace the power steering motor. It will get worse, and if it goes out, it may lock up your serpentine belt, and you'll be on the side of the road.
