ECM and TCM are both located under the dashboard, behind the glove box. You must remove the glovebox to access these modules. Remember that any yellow wires or connectors are for the air bags. You should probably refer to a service manual before accessing anything electrical/electronic.

Testimonial: "I'm really grateful for your assistant, in allowing my good self to locate the TCM, and thanks a lot."

More here, but the TCM is not something you say "I think I'll put a new one in my car". You need an auto electrician or a transmission specialist to connect a scan tool computer and diagnose. The issue is more likely shift solenoids than the TCM.

MY JEEP LIBERTY WILL NOT SHIFT OUT OF LOW

wow no year stated, its 1996 and never but how new
its a KK or KJ jeep 2002 to now. 14 years of jeep.
as is what transmission used, and if 2wd or 4wd.????
first the p0700 code
ONLY, means
1: SCAN TOO you using is junk, and old,
or
2: means the TCM needs to be scanned by self. to see all codes in the TCM.

my guess is you need a real scantool..

700 means, trans has errors, stored, ASK IT NOW.

1: fuses good,
2: is TCM plugged, in? some Liberties have seperate PCM and TCM.
3: the TCM most see all sensors working (where ever it hides)
if not , it will not ever upshift.
speed sensors dead, or not plugged in?
PCM cant talk to TCM.// oops....
and more.
the problem is your tools, (missing a real jeep scan too)
my INNOVA 3160 can see those errors, but ive never done a liberty, in fact i don't consider it a real jeep.

The TCM is JUST a computer (a simple microprocessor)
it has inputs and outputs (shift solenoids)
if the inputs lie, it can not shift or shifts wrong, or goes to limp home and skips gears.
all TCM work like that, and not scanning it is a FAIL.

you must scan it fully. to get all CODES.

My 2002 Jeep Liberty is stuck in 2nd gear, the speedometer is no longer working as well as its components. I have changed the rear and middle speed sensors but it is still not drivable. What can I do

you need to scan it,
to fix it or diagnose it.

the speedo runs off ABS speed, sensor.

scan the ABS too.
or you will never find cause.
there are many speed sensors, not just one like in old days.

here is how that works.(ascii art)

ABS >>>PCM/TCM and BCM. >>> and cluster brain (speed)
so if the transmission sensors work ,and ABS speed is dead.
the TCM can not know speed, so can not shift correctly.

the whole system needs to be scanned.
on the old cars the TCM had its own 2 sensors (or 3)
front ,middle, and tail. (tails was speed)
this is now changed.
the evolution is complex, so I'll skip that.

Location of transmission temperature sensor 2002 liberty

on the transmission. 45RFE trans.?
is the engine overheating?

The transmission temperature sensor is mounted on the overdrive/torque converter clutch solenoid assembly and provides input to the TCM. When the temperature sensor reports 30 degrees F or colder, there will be no overdrive, and below 50 degrees F, there will be no torque converter clutch. If the transmission fluid temperature sensor reports an overheating condition (over 260 degrees F) and the transmission is currently in overdrive, the TCM will downshift to third gear. The TCM will also light the LED in the dash-mounted OD off switch until the temperature drops below 230 degrees F. However, the torque converter clutch may still be operational.

2002 jeep liberty auto trans check engine lte on code p0700 and will not shift of=ver 2nd gear when goes into 3rd gear it feels like in neutral

p0700 is pretty much the generic code for saying the computer that controls your transmission has a problem, it may not be the actual computer its self, but one of its sensores, or a bad wire, i would recomend taking it to a reputable transmission shop

Please remember to dicobbect the battery BEFORE removing the module.
Total time to replace the module - 10 mins!
