Model 2004 E Class Elegant. I have put in new merc battery last month yet the battery drains out completely overnight. No diagnosis could yet be done even after 3 visits to the Merc Dealer Workshop. Can anyone help me as what could be the cause of battery drain?

bad alternator possible or bad battery..even though its new that battery can be bad. I would take a volt meter and with the engine running check the volts of the battery..If the volts are 12 you need to replace alternator, if volts are 14 you need to check the battery. to check the battery hold the volt meter to the battery and have someone start the car..while the starter is cranking battery volts should not drop below 10volts.if they do your battery is bad.

Something is shorted and it could be very difficult to find sometimes. It could be something as simple as a button being pressed when it shouldn't turning on a light or feature that runs all the time, but in a 2001 that is unlikely as it should turn off all lights after a certain period of time. It could be something in the radio. What I suggest is to pull one fuse at a time for accessories, check your manual for what each fuse powers. If the battery still drains with that fuse out then put it back in a pull another. When you find the fuse that allows your battery to keep it's charge then you will have a much smaller field of offending components.
For example, if you pull the fuse that powers the radio and heater, and the battery keeps it's charge then you know it is either the heater or radio causing your problem.
This can take a few weeks to do completly but won't cost you a penny to do.

there must be somekind of amp draw or else you shouldnt be having any problems, this may sound wierd, and also may be a bit of work, try disconnecting the alternator for a night and see if your problem goes away, ive run across this a couple of times, also, seat control modules are known to cause draw problems in c and clk classes

This is normally a low voltage from the alternator condition. Hook a voltmeter to the battery and note the reading. Should be 11.6vdc to 12.2vdc. Start the car, after a minute or so it should be around 13 to 14 vdc., if not then the alternator may be bad

If the battery is draining at all ,beyond 40 milli amps continuous, which is what keeps the radio clock, pcm (computer) and other devices powered up,then something is not timing out, such as windows, door locks,on the LS the radio etc. Retained memory is just that or it goes to sleep ie no current flow. I won't go into how you check current flow but it is fairly easy. The time consuming task will be to find the offender. You could pull all the fuses and replace them one at a time, but need an ampere meter in the circuit,so that's why I won't go into it. Now fuses alone are just a start and time here is limited. The LS has an awfull lot of stuff. I have a 2004. Even the Alt and a long list of things could cause this.
