1993 camaro no secrty light wont crank

The security light is a visual indication that something in the car's antitheft system is failing. In most GM cars and trucks there is a hidden system that most people are unaware even exists. From the moment you put your key in the ignition, there begins a constant line of communication between your key's security chip or transponder, to the ignition's lock cylinder, and then to the car's TDM (Theft Deterrent Module). These 3 parts are in CONSTANT communication. If the key is in the ignition, then these parts are sending signals to each other. The security light illuminates when that signal gets broken, even just for a second. When the signal breaks, the car misinterperates this as an attempt at theft and goes into antitheft mode. The car thinks its being stolen or hotwired because it is not getting that signal from YOUR specific key. This is why the security light turns on and shuts down your vehicle.

make sure you have the correct key with the transponder and not a valet key, turn key to on but do not crank engine, leave key on 10 to 15 min until light goes off then crank engine

Most GM vehicles from the mid 80's to around the mid 2000's have this problem. The problem is the "antitheft" systems that GM has been using. The number one symptom of this problem is seeing a light on the dash that says SECURITY. Read this link for info on these systems and some DO IT YOURSELF ways to fix it forever.

First thing i would check is the security system. If the battery is good, and it feels like everything is normall except it just wont crank. It could be the security or the starter. Put your key in and try to start it, when it doesnt start, look for a light on the dash that says SECURITY this is a dead give away and you could find all the answers you may need on this link http://vatspasslockpasskeysecurityhelp.yolasite.com/

Is the security light lit up on the dash when it wont start? If so, you have a VATS security issue. The system will actually turn off the starter if it feels that it is being stolen. It thinks its being stolen when the chip in the key doesnt communicate with ignition/lock cyclinder. Or if the security computer is going out. (it's called the TDM) If that light is on, its a dead give away that the vats is messed up. If no light, id try a good charge on the battery. Sometimes the lights will work fine but you dont have those cranking amps that you need to start.

The security system (VATS/PassKey) is having problems, it's typical on those cars/years. It's been a nightmare for us. You can find a great write-up here: http://newrockies.ca , it was the only thing that saved my 94 Park Avenue that has the same security system.

these cars have a antitheft system that will shut down fuel and crank. be sure to check to see if after the car ignition is on for 30 seconds and look to see if there is a security light on in the dash. if so then turn to crank if security light flashes your problem is that the chip in your key is not being transfered to the security module, so starter will not work. you will have to replace the pickup in the cylinder or bypass the security with proper resister

try locking and unlocking the drivers door with the key. hope this helps. mike
