Sounds like you need new rubber seals, but first, open the roof, and with a damp cloth, clean dirt off the inside rubbers, then close roof most of the way and clean around the edge of the glass/metal, which ever it is. Then close it fully and see if there are any tiny gaps. Does it leak water ? Red.

It could be just a stuck valve or a failed shift solenoid, but it really needs to be diagnosed by a Auto Trans specialist. They can plug in to the computer and check fault codes which should give them at least an indication of what the issue is. It may even be a common fault, in which case they might be able to tell you what's likely to be wrong just from the description. Ring around a few trans shops and see if you can get any good info out of them, and ask what their diagnosis charge is, and get a rough estimate on a trans rebuild. Then price up a second hand trans with low kms and see if it's worth going down that track.

Sounds like it is going off track whenever it gets to the popping sound point. Or its catching against something, Check to see if anything could be in the tracks of the sunroof. Hope this helps, James Booth. Let me know what happens
