Well if your fuel filter is bad the car will be sluggish and once you locate the filter disconnect the battery and remove the filter and blow into it from the side that faces the gas tank and the fuel inside should blow out and be sooted with a color distortion either gold or black fuel should come out also be sure you have a clean tank as well as fresh gas in it so you don't burn bad gas off in the motor or if you still have old gas in the car run it out and buy some sea foam and run it till it's empty and add new gas in it and put premium gas back in the car with more sea foam and do the refill after you change the filter and reconnect the battery

Bad fuel filter?

Three words is not a question, nor details of a vehicle problem

If you know what Preventative Maintenance is,you would know
that fuel filters get replaced every 3 to 5 years, depending on what
they look like, when you replace one & cut it open for exam

On your older vehicle with a possible steel fuel tank, they get replace every 3 years, newer plastic tanks do not have the rust
& debris that will clog a filter

Not getting fuel to engine. replaced fuel pump and filter, ran for week not not getting fuel again.pump is ok.

Mate,I hope this can help you. There is a fuel filter down on the chassis rail near the fuel tank.It is very often overlooked if you don't know it's there.Also.Check for any inlet manifold leaks. If you have replaced a bad filter and things came good,it may have seemed liked it fixed a hidden problem.
Or.Check the new filter. You may have got a bad dose of gunk or water in the fuel.
To fix water in the tank.Add 1 litre of metholated spirits to 20 litres of fuel.
Hope this may help you with your problem

My 1995 Pontiac Grand Prix SE is not wanting to start. It's had this problem for a while but never this bad. I've changed the fuel filter and the spark plugs and it ran for a day or 2, now it wont crank at...

Your fuel pump may have gone bad. You can remove the air filter housing and spray some carb cleaner into it while somebody cranks the engine. If it starts, you know it has a fuel problem.

Engine dies when step on gas

Could be a number of things. Fuel filter could be clogged, fuel pump could be bad. Try replacing the fuel filter first, it is inexpensive and if problem persists check the fuel pressure at the fuel rail. Pressure port looks like air valve on your tires. A strong, steady flow of fuel should be present. Let me know

No/Low Fuel Pressure after replacing in-tank fuel pump & filter

Need to have the fuel pressure checked at fuel rail to know for sure if there is a fuel pressure problem for sure. There may be a in line filter as well, you can also do a check of the pressure regulator by pulling the vacuum line off of it then try starting the car with it off and see if it runs, if it does the regulator is bad, but IF it doesnt run doesnt necessarly mean it is good, a lot of fuel filters have a bypass wich allows the gas to bypass the filter when it is full bad thing is the debris can then plug the injectors causing problems, or there could be a loss of signal to tell the injectors to give fuel to the cylinders from an electrical or a sensor failure. So it is best to test the pressure to know for sure if it is in the fuel line or the injectors if it is truly being starved of gas. hope this helps

My 98 pathfinder is starting to stall, and wont rev over 2 grand

If your problems have slowly drag on and gotten worse probably Cadillac converter if all of a sudden probably bad fuel water in the fuel or a clogged fuel filter if you want to know if it's the Cadillac converter / plug off exhaust just disconnect the exhaust pipe in front of the Cadillac converter and take it for a test drive if problem pretty much disappears you have a clogged exhaust system if not you have a bad fuel issue and if it's a bad fuel issue drain your fuel filter you fuel through about 20 coffee filters then you can reuse that fuel after you let it set for 3 hours for water to settle out after filtering and replace all fuel filters the one in the tank the one in line or on engine or under hood and in my case all three meaning fuel tank and line and on engine then run some fuel injector cleaner through the system just in case it's bad fuel injectors or clogged fuel rails or lines

Fuel filter engine shut-down fuel system

How do you know it's the fuel filter and not the fuel pump or a bad vacuum hose? If it's the fuel filter why don't you just change it?
Unless you know how to avoid gasoline everywhere take it to a friend's mechanic.
