Hood release 2004 VW Jetta

try pushing down or pulling up slightly on trunk while operating remote.

Deas anyone know or heard of How to replace a VW Jetta 2006 hood release cable. HOW TO REPLACE IT...

these little monsters will break easy so buy new jets before you "take"the old ones off.you may have to pull really hard to break the pipes off the stems.

They are not designed to open from the outside. Why can't you get inside?

well if the cable snapped you will need to try to get the front grill to pop out with out breaking it and look up and in to get to the little latch for the hood release.

hey there, had the same problem and found it to be caused but the drain for the sunroof. open the drivers door, look above the hinge and you will find a rubber bit sticking out from the car side. squeeze it and watch the water pour out. just received a recall notice from VW. now that the carpets are ruined, both sides!

one is located over the battery, the other is located in the side of the dash.

First panel:
If you pop your hood the battery will be on your right sid in the front of the engine bay. There is a small rectangular piece on top of the battery with a lot of heavy guage red wires going to it. That is the engine bay fuse box.

Second panel:
if you open your driver side car door it's under neath a panel located inbetween the door and the dash board.

on the left side of the drivers side their is a panel with the hood release Pull off the cover of the hood release and you will see a cable connected to the hood release. take some pliers and give it a good pull.
if you dont hear a click, have someone pull the hood up while you pull on the hood release cable. next their will be little space to take off the grille for easier acces. take off the grille carefully by prying it off carefully on each side. push the grill up and pull it towards you going up then down.
Now all you have to do is stick a flathead screwdriver or philips. and on the bottom of the hood release on the hood stick the screwdriver under the release and push the screw driver down while pushing the hood up.

The hood release is inside the car, on the drivers side, under the dash, far left side,and the latch release is inside your grill, near the center

On mine, a RHD, it is a plastic lever just forward of the door post. It is a crappy piece of plastic about four inches long.Mine has recently broken and will result in a bill for about £60-70 for replacing the lever and the cable (the cable is very tight)
Getting the handle off was a hell of a job until someone spotted that inside the handle, on the lower part as accessed from the outside, is a clip that needs to be pulled out to release the handle. Only then could we reach the cable and that took an enourmopus amount of effirt to release the bonnet.
As the mechanic said, "I didn't expect this sort of rubbish from VW"
