Reset check engine light

Got a free check engine light diagnostic test done on my 2006 Hyundai Accent and the problem is that I need a new fuel cap. How much do they cost and how much do you think it will cost to have the computer reset?

SOURCE: Check Engine Light won't go off

If you have an Advance Auto Parts store where ever you are, they will read the code and tell you exactly what to code is and what it means. Any mechanic who "guesses" isn't a mechanic at all - he's a thief. Emissions leak can be any number of things, but not the gas cap!

SOURCE: 2006 mountaineer check engine light on

look closely at the cap to make sure the rubber seal isn't damaged, have the cap vacuum checked. if everything is ok with the cap, scan for what the check engine light code is. if it is a large evap system leak, the system may think the cap is off because it cannot build up any pressure in the system.

Mycheck engine light came on in my 2006 Hyundai accent. Car runs fine

Engine check light is activated by the oxygen sensor, have the sensors reset with scanner, if the light kicks back on, then have sensor checked and replaced if necessary.

Check engine light is on...have replaced plugs, plug wires, massive airflow sensor, air filter, fuel filter, pulled fuel pump...seems to be ok...can still feel slight hesitation while accelerating thru...

Some check engine lights need to be reset by the OBD-II code reader. It's also possible that you've solved 98% of your problem but there's still 1 problem left (possible clogged fuel injector?) that's pulling a different error code. (possibly P0301-P0312 misfire or P0262-P0295 injector)

Best bet is to go to 1 of the auto parts chain stores that provide free diagnostic tests. If it's just a lingering old error code it will be reset or if it's something new, you'll know exactly what the issue is.

My check engine light has come on in a 2004 Hyundai Accent. There doesn't seem to be any problems, and the car only has 16,800 miles on it.

This is probably sensor or emissions related. You need to have the car scanned with diagnostic equipment in order to help pinpoint the cause of the problem. The vehicles computer will have retained a trouble code that can be picked up with a scanner.

Do not ignore it as this light is on for a reason. You can have a scan done at Autozone for free.

Malfunction Indicator Light remains on after gas cap was left off

To reset the light quickly, you'll need to hook up a scan tool and erase the code. Some parts stores will do this for free. The light will go out by itself eventually but it may take some time until the computer runs that test again and decides everything is OK

2001 hyundai accent. hard to start when engine is cold. has new air & fuel filter, and plugs. starts fine when at operating temperature.

Without actually looking/diagnosing your vehicle, the problem could be just about anything (fuel pressure, out of time, vacuum leak, defective sensor (i.e., MAP, MAF, ECT, IAT, CKP, etc.), Does the Check Engine light come ON when this happens? Whenever the "Check Engine" light comes on, there is always a DTC (Diagnostic Trouble Code) stored in the ECM (Engine Control Module). You'll need an OBDII (On-Board-Diagnostics) scanner to retrieve any codes recorded/set in ECM. Once you do this and let us know what, if any codes are set, then we can go from there.

I have a 2006 hyundai accent it is idling high and it seems to me that the tranny is slipping when you first start the car and take off, the rmps hit about 4000 before it finally kicks, my check engine...

No one could tell me what was wrong with my 2006 hyundai . Why the check engine light kept being on. Autozone, Napa, Advance auto, their FREE diagnostic machine could not figure the problem. It kept reading p0012 and they didn't know what exactly that meant so... I had to give in and take it to the hyundai dealership and pay$99 for a real diagnostic test. That's when I was told it was my oil control valve and the problem got fixed, no more headache!
