Hi Keith: By boot, are you refering to the trunk deck lid? I do not understand what you mean by "number plate" and "fob". Can you please elaborate. Thank You.

SOURCE: is it expensive to have the tailgate release

I just bought a CRV and it was doing the same thing. We sprayed some WD40 on the outside handle and took off the panel on the back of the tailgate. We wiggled it a few times from the inside and at the same time doing it on the outside. Sprayed some more WD40 on the exterior handle and it now works perfect. Was just stuck...

SOURCE: tailgate failure on honda accord tourer 2004

Maybe a little late here but i have a fix for this after turning down my dealers generous offer of a 750gbp fix i did some extensive googling and found this.... With your ignition on open the tailgate using the catch inside then turn off ignition and disconnect the battery for a minute. Reconect the battery and turn on ignition and let the warning lights go through their cycle. With the ignition still on shut the tailgate and hey Presto should be as good as new.

SOURCE: Auto tailgate warning light is on dash board but tailgate closed.

I have a similar problem, my tailgate stopped working with the outside handle and the remote but can be opened manually from the inside. I don't have an alarm so there is no problem with that but did you get a solution for the tailgate problem that I could try?

2010 Ceed estate boot mechanism not working, have replaced motor, no luck, any other suggestions?

Have you checked to see if the actual wiring to the motor has power? If you are getting nothing at the button it may not be the motor causing the issue. The emergency release is a mechanical pull so it is seperate to the motor.
Have you checked the fuses? There is a fuse for the tailgate in the dashboard fuse panel. With the drivers door wide open the fuse box is behind a pull off cover on the flat end panel of the dashboard. You need to check fuse 19 labelled 'T/LID'. It will be a 15A fuse, (usually blue).
Try this website for a Diagram of the fuse panel.

Power tailgate on 2007 rx350 will not stay open

With the age of this vehicle, there is a good chance that the hydraulic struts can no longer easily lift, and keep the tailgate open...even though the electronics work OK.

Think my boot lock has gone on my 08 plate vw fox. Is there anyway to open boot to check. Ta

Get into the boot by dropping the rear seats. Examine the trim panel on the tailgate as some versions have a slot fitted where you can use a flat blade screwdriver to 'trip' the lock manually.
If not, you will have to remove the tailgate trim. I think they are held on with a screw in the centre and push in clips around the edges. This should reveal the release mechanism. There is a rod connected to it. Shift this rod and the latch should release.

I cant open the boot on my nissan note

we had the same problem with our NIssan Note- - some times its the mircoswitch that unlocks the boot, - sometimes its a break in the wiring- for us, it was the wiring- Where the loom leaves the car body to go into the tailgate, the wires get bent to and fro alot, and fatigue -> break. SO:
Climb inside the car, remove the plastic panel from the inside of the boot , then reach inside the boot for the tailgate latch. Ours had a plastic cover over which took some wriggling to get off, then we released the lock manually.one the boot was open 1 we checked for power supply to the switch and motor: there was none.
2 we looked at the wiring supply to the boot (top right hand side). We snipped the rubber boot, opened it up, we found three wires broken, supplying the micro switch for the lock, and the number plate lights...
3 we soldered them and hey presto, it worked fine again- we had to work out which supplied which , which was fun!

I have a e320 2003 model, the same has happened to me. I wondered if it could be the fuse but couldn't find a fuse that managed the boot.....
This problem is identical to the other post "boot wont open electronicaly by the boot release latch above the number plate, the boot release button inside the car or the key fob! I have to use the manual key to mechanically open it now."

Unlocking Boot lid

I am assuming your problem is similar to mine; the key fob isn't dead, but for some reason the boot won't release.  This happens rarely, but can be very frustrating (and embarrassing)!

When neither the key fob nor the release on the boot work, lock and unlock the car, and insert the key into the ignition.  Turn the key to the second stage, i.e. the accessories are powered, and then remove the key.  This ought to allow you to use the fob again.
