1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, V6. Oil Pressure Gauge Read High.
1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee, V6. On acceleration, 1) the pressure gauge shows high oil pressure and the needle pegged at the top, 2) the RPM is also high. How do I replace the oil pressure sending unit?

You could start with the sending unit. Could be a wiring problem or it could actually have high oil pressure.
The sending unit is near the oil filter on the 6 cyl engine and I think on the 8 cyl too.
sounds like dirty oil clogged the oil pressure relief valve to me.
its stuck fast closed. bad deal that.
no engine option stated, so dont expect , accurate answers.
Normal oil pressure should be between 40 and 60 psi. A cold engine will normally have higher pressure. If you're seeing 75 psi on a warm engine I would recommend having the pressure checked with a manual gauge to verify the gauge in the Jeep is working correctly. If the gauge is correct oil viscosity may be too high (oil too thick) or there may be a problem with the oil pump pressure relief valve. If the gauge is not correct the sending unit may be at fault.
if the gauge starts a 0 - goes to 1/2 , than full - sounds like gauge is OK - seems to me like the sending unit is bad - you could try removing the sender and trying to clean out the port with "brake clean", letting it dry than re-installing it. the pressure switch is still the least expensive place to start
If your oil pressure is running in the red this would indicate too much oil in the system. You should have your oil changed and refilled soon or you run the risk of burning out the oil pump. At idle your pressure should be just over a quarter of what your gauge has. At highway speed it should not exceed 3/4 of the gauge unless your going in excess of 100 MPH. Change the oil and filter and your vehicle should be fine.
Any waranties left? Is oil full? Any noises from engine? Did you put a mechanical gauge on it and check "real" oil pressure? (I would not drive it 'till I was sure about actual oil pressure!!)
try replacing the oil filter and oil make sure u use the right grade oil for it if it still does it u need yo go to mechanic or if u have one connect a external oil pressure gauge to the engine to check if the car gauge is reading correctly if it is reading right then the oil pressure releif vale is stikking
if the car gauge is reading wrong change oil pressure sender
Hi, I had the same problem, same vehicle (same year), same engine. I bought an oil pressure tester at Harbor freight tools for $ 8. I was trying to figure out, if the pressure is really high, or just the sending unit is defective. The tester after connecting it to my engine was reading correct pressure for this vehicle ( between 25-30 PSI when idelling), which showed that the oil pressure sending unit is defective. At Advanced autopart store they want about $ 47 for the sending unit, so I put the defective one back in place (still reading H). I'm planning to replace it after next pay check :o) Good luck. U will need to buy the special tool.
