SOURCE: Knock Sensor 2002 Nissan Frontier

The job of the knock sensor is to detect the vibrations of engine "knock" caused by an advanced ignition system. It allows the fuel mixture to run extremely lean and efficient and when it can't perform at maximum effeciency, it "knocks" like it has bad gas and the computer gets the signal from the sensor and changes the ignition to ****** the spark and make the knock go away. If the computer is confused by the signal (too much signal, no signal or too frequent signal) the computer flips the light on with a 0402 code.

If you hit a pothole and the light goes on it might have got too much signal. If it starts going on at other times, you may have a sensor that is sending out too many signals and it might be from bad gas that the computer can't control the knocks.

I have a 1999 Nissan Frontier 4x4 3.3 motor. M reverse and tag lights aren't working. I was told there is a switch next to the transmission, but I found 3 switches. How do I know which one it is?

These are Two separate circuits, if the tail lights work the tag light bulbs are probably burned out. and as the other info said look at the linkage that moves with the shifter and the reverse switch is part of a larger switch that also contains the neutral safety switch that allows the vehicle to start only in park or neutral. I hope this helps. Take care.

2000 Nissan frontier ran rough and stalled out. will not start. only code is for knock sensor. Could the knock sensor cause this?

Ecu collects data from all sensors. If they don't "add up" it throws the code. Could be corrosion on the connection or connector is off.
Find the knock sensor on the block, check the connection. If a bad connection scrape spade to bright metal both sides reconnect, clear code. Recheck codes. No help must be knock sensor. so must be changed.

Engine misfire and knock sensor bank 1 codes on 1999 Nissan frontier 3.3 v6

I would want to see the actual codes, but if it is one or two cylinders you could have a failing injector and it not show up as a trouble code.
If one of the injectors is failing it can have a high resistance and affect the other injectors in that circuit.
The O2 sensors and cat would not affect a power loss in one or two cylinders, and the O2 sensor codes would be present.
The knock sensor only measures vibration, so it was probably ok before you replaced it.
There is a chance the cap is shorting out internally which would be tough to see, and the optic sensor in the bottom of the distributor could be causing problems too. Some of the cylinders may not be firing when you think they are.

Engine light stays on with the code p1706 what does this mean? I have a 1999 nissan altima gxe.

This code indicates there is a problem with your PNP (Park Neutral Position) switch On American built cars it's called the Neutral safety switch.
It may have been a "one time" take it to AutoZone and have them reset the error. If it doesn't come back don't worry about it. If it does at least you know now what to look for

Knock sensor circuit problem

Well, you have another issue besides a knock sensor problem. A knock sensor code WILL NOT illuminate the check engine light. Check for other codes stored in the ECU. I have seen oxygen sensor issues cause knock sensor issues due to inaccurate fuel delivery resulting in engine ping at all times (causing the ECU to think that the knock sensor is bad because it's reporting ping at all times) - but also had codes for one or more O2 sensors.
