1984 jaguar vander plass wont shift into reverse

remove the arm and blade then the plastic screen scuttle panel the motor assembely is held by the large nut and clips holding the unit to the outer bulkhead not easy to get to use a bit of stiff wire with a hook on help but not easy

YOU HAVE RELAYS LOCATED UNDER THE HOOD AND MARKED AS R4 FOR THE WIPERS....

The SHiFT lock is broken or not pulling up when u disengage the reverse and PARK!
SHiFT LOCK is the one in ur SHiFTiNG KNOB, when u try to release the PAR or going to reverse u have to pull/press it!
The only way you could release and check it, is by dismantling the whole shifting console, and check where it is disconnected or go to the nearest garage to fix on that!

fuses for those lights are under the glove box on the passenger side... Even though they look ok... replace the fuse for that circuit... if it fixes great otherwise it may be the fuse block... not an easy fix.

you have a bent shift fork or shaft, you will need to remove the dust boot pull the shift snap ring it the shifter is in the floor and pull the shifter stick off then remove the transmisson top cover and replace the reverse first shift fork, this is the most common cause, if it has a columm shifter then disconnet the shifter lever and try shifting if it shifts then you have bent linkage and will need to figure out where it is located.

You have a mechanical problem with the Transmission. Try to replace the Valve Body , if not you need to fix your transmission or replace

the shifter forks inside the trany is hung up take back out or slide back be sure in neutral when u get it to shift then put back in

Have you checked your transmission fluid level?
