check the splines for consistency as many have a master spline ( one wider or like 2 as one) so that the steering wheel always ends up in the correct position you may have to fit a different yoke to the box to take the new shaft

Don't believe there is one for headlights. Your jeep is too darn old: I can see wiring diagrams going back to 1986 at a site, so I looked at one for an '86 CJ7. Unfortunately not a complete headlight wiring diagram, however, so you're getting a two bit answer, with inflation worth about 10 cents. lol. The headlight switch gets power from a fusible link (Fuse link A) that looks like it may be located on the starter solenoid terminal- two fuse links- A & B, there somewhere. But this same fusible link A also supplies power to the fuse block with the park/tail lamps, hazards, brake lights, and a couple others. So if you have stop lights and park lights, then the fusible link is good, so you should have power to the headlight switch. Neither the fuse block, nor the instrumentation diagram, shows any fuses for the headlights. A lot of older vehicles did not have headlamp fuses, because the light switch had a built-in circuit breaker. My guess is you have a bad dimmer switch, or the connection there may be bad. Or check if you have power to the headlight socket with the light switch on, and if you do, there may be a headlight ground problem.

there is only one way to do it but you wont have the electronic equipment .the easy way is you have to be two people one for the ignition key the other one whit a insulate pliers you take a spark plug wire and you put the end near the engine if your coil works you will see a bleu spark . But it could be your wire that are getting hold and they leak power or your spark plugs it is better to get a book they will show you all the steps.

make sure that the fuel line from the tank to the pump is not dry or cracked; the pump could be sucking air.

not true, at all , any ASE mech can do this.... sorry, its a fact. the linkage (A/T or M/T , 4wd lever or main gear shift lever>???) try hard to say , exact what part is bad. Clutch A/T box 4WD, issues, ( on my 5th jeep, and have 2 now) Can fix any car. if i was there, id have you, show me what to do , to get the failed symptoms. you;d say, sit here, and grab , this? what is this. the manual stick shift, and id , push in the clutch. and id see , the clutch works but the shifter parts (bushings) are shot and the lever flops about,,,, so i pull it down and rebush it with factory parts. or ,if an A/T id sit there, and put it in Drive, the car dont move i then try all other gears, L 2, R , do they fail too??? i make sure the linkage shifts correct at the actual tranny. if not the linkage is bad (loose) or needs adjustment , (FSM covers ways and spec) like that. no mech needs to know jeeps. not at all, there is nothing magic here. "like French cars" you only need to know 4wd cars. both A./T and M/T do post back with car spec. with options. we dont know. that. cant see it. if your car is not stock, then sure , any mech, will have trouble. frankejeeps or fanken cars of any kind, are a big problem. there is no limits to the frank (hacks) is why, done many, many shops will look and see all the hacks and not even touch it for good reasons (many, ask)
