Malibu dome entry/exit light does not turn on when doors open.

the chime can be from a few systems that may have a fault going on --seat belt female connection -seat weight switch-turn indicator left on - low fuel-door open -air bag -lights left on -etc

bulb or fues

door not close all the way or door seal is leaking.check for cracks ot tears in door seal

replace the rear brake turn signal bulb first. usually the problem

Try the dimmer switch that adjusts the dash/gauge lighting. It should turn an extra bit that turns on the dome light. Also, read the Owner's Manual for info on the dome switch.

Your car should still be under warranty. The dealer should fix it for free.

Not likely. Usually the dome light fuse is also the same one for the cigarette lighter. Most common problem is that there is soemthing inthe cigarette lighter that is causing a short. If there is nothing in there, then you will need to check the wire for the dome light to be sure that it is not shorted.

The door switch could be bad, you can verify this by carefully removing the door panel and checking the switch contacts with an ohmmeter.

On most vehicles, the dome light has 3 settings,
(1) on always (your manual slide you are doing)
(2) On only when door opens (or the key fob pressed)
(3) Always Off

Usually the same switch to turn on (position 1) is a 3 position switch that allows for all 3 modes. However, I have a Buick LaCrosse (I thought a sister model), and the switch for control of this is on the left side of instrument panel with the headlight controls.

Check to see if you have 3 options rather than just on or off.

The reason the radio is staying on is the retained accessory power not shutting down when the driver's door is opened. You can verify this by opening the door with the key on, if the door ajar light on the instrument panel does not light up the switch in the door latch is defective. You will need to replace the door latch.
