2004 chevy aveo .........idle just fine but when your are driving the car and you are going up an incline but don't press down on the gas to kick the transmission in a lower gear to help it climb, thats when it starts lugging...just a little bit of an incline without pushing down on the gas pedal

Bring to tranny shop or repair shop, have it scanned for trouble codes, many electrical parts and solonoids in those trannys, possible it may just be a shift solonoid bad or needs adjustment, much cheaper than replacing tranny. good luck!
there is a Technical service bulletin for this problem, the number of the TSB is 01575, TSB Date:January 1, 2004
It has to do with engine valve seating problems.
