SOURCE: Skoda Octavia Deisel Automatic, starter won't engage

its a VW for any american mechanics reading this and a skoda is now a glorified VW but a very nice car ,now as for this fault then iam at a loss as these cars never go wrong but you havent stated if the starter is clicking and not turning or if the relay is clicking but as this is a auto version it could be the inhibitor switch but without my head under the bonnet or more info i cannot really tell you ,could even be the immobilisor or the electrical switch on the back of the ignition key ,If you cannot find the fault then you can manually overide the starter by making sure vehicle is in park ,turn ignition on the using a piece of wire or a small screwdriver to bridge the fat terminal with the small one this will activate the starter to start it so you can get it to a garage. Now certain year vehicles will immobilise themselves if you change the engine oil as this turns on a sensor that engine is low on oil and this will stop vehicle from starting and only the dealer has the software to release it but if this is your case i know a way around this .

You haven't given much detail about the car but long crank is normally associated with flooding. Dying out as well may occur due tyo too much fuel. CHECK FOR THAT.

What is causing it to cut out?

Could be just a dirty idle air control motor, which can be cleaned sometimes. Your shop manual should tell how.

Pump relay location

From the Haynes repair manual:
'access to the relays can be obtained after removing the drivers side lower facia then remove the two plate screws (one either end) and lower the plate complete with relays'. Some relays are at the rear of the engine (the second box left to the nearside suspension strut) as your looking into the engine (under a cover)

The fuel pump works off of these fuses/relays:
Pin 5 goes to fuse no. 32
Pin 10 goes to fuse no. 34
Fuses are fed from relay no. 109

Hope this helps, a diagram of the footwell is here:

Why does my Skoda diesel engine 140 hesitate occasionally mainly at low revs?. This only started to happen after the cambelt has been replaced

Depending on the climate, you may need to try a different fuel supplier, could also be the fuel filter, if not already done.

Replace diesel fuel pump & injectors now it won't start

sounds similar to the problems ive had with my focus tddi on several occasions due to the float in the tank sticking, so thinking i had more fuel then i actually did. if i were you to make sure fuel is being pumped, crack off injectors 1 and 4, then get someone to turnover the car while you wait to see if diesel squirts out from the injectors, hopefully it should fire, if it does get the person turning the vehicle over to stop, then tighten them back up.
i hope this helps, let me know

Fuel Gauge displays 1/4 tank, vehicle does not start, bled the injectors of air, vehicle started , next day same problem occured , it is a skoda octavia 1.9 TDI 2004 Please assist

nice car a skoda ,2004 so its common rail and whats happening is a valve in the pump on the common rail injector where it draws the fuel up is defective and its allowing the fuel to run back to the tank ,quick solution is is to fit a non return valve in the in side and one on the return that will cure your problem and its cheaper than having the high pressure injector pump overhauled
