My ford f150 won't start

I checked the battery and it appears to be good. What else should I check? It won't turn over at all.

Hi Jose Ruppenschlager , I want to help you with your problem, but I need more information from you. Can you please add details in the comment box? do you hear any sound while trying to crank it over? a click perhaps? do the lights come on in the instrument cluster ( ie: engine, oil, etc...)?

Hi Pete, thanks for responding. I do hear a clicking noise and all the lights come on on the dash. The headlights work too but they are a bit dimmer than usual.

Sounds like the starter motor needs replacement. If possible have someone lightly tap the starter motor while you hold the key in the cranking position if the starter engages you will need to replace the starter. Also check the large wire at the starter ( this is the 12 volt lead directly from the positive side of battery) , the eyelet sometimes corrodes and or breaks causing a poor connection.

reach under engine and tap on starter with a hammer (careful!) while someone turns key...starter needs lube at Bendix solenoid.

On the firewall is the starter motor relay. There are 2 large battery sized cables to it, and 1 smaller ( 16 AWG ) wire that is orange or orange with a stripe ( forget the color, want to say white or tan ).

When you turn the key to the start position, check the smaller gauge wire for +12 V. The case should be ground. If you do not get +12 on the orange wire, try starting the truck in neutral ( apply the parking brake, chock the wheel, etc normal safety precautions ). Test for +12 V at the small wire. This is the output of the DTR ( Digital Transmission Range ) sensor or in common terms the Neutral switch. The start position on the ign switch runs through the DTR to the starter motor relay coil.
If you have a stick, the DTR is replaced by the Clutch Pedal Position Switch ( clutch must be pushed in to start ).
If you have power to this ( at the times the truck won't start ) next is to check the both battery cable ends to see if they are corroded and making intermittent contact ( not probable but possible ).

I replaced starter on 1989 f150 5.0 now have no spark

Mike, Check for diagnostic codes. Check fuses/relays,wires/plugs for pinched, damage or corrosion. Could be a lot of things like distributor armature, cap, rotor, stator, ICM, coil, spark plugs, wires, make sure ground is good to distributor. Use the attached forum links, instruction, guides to help diagnose ignition spark problems, Good luck

Battery keeps draining already put in a brand new alletantor and brattery still draining and battery lights comes on and truck won't start

You would have checked the charging system before replacing the alternator, so I will assume the charging system is good.
If the battery is being discharged overnight or over a few days, you would need to disconnect it and check every circuit on the truck to find the drain.

1987 ford f150 shut off and will not turn over to start

If it cranks but won't start, you will need to figure out if you are dealing with a spark or fuel problem to proceed.
Check those things and let me know what you find.

My 2004 f150 wont start. i drove it to the store and everything worked fine. when i came out of the store, the truck won't start. when i turn the key nothing happens. i can hear a clicking noise coming...

I would check your battery. I would also look for loose grounds. The clicking you hear is your fuel pump turning on. I would check your battery voltage and, have the battery load tested.

4x4 1990 f150 will not start

Does the truck turn over but won’t start? If so there is a fusible link running from the starter solenoid behind the battery.
Also if you get nothing when you turn the key could be the solenoid. Its easy enough to jump the solenoid and check . Check all the fusible links coming off the power side of the solenoid and replace as needed.
