A/C clutch does noge engage

The AC clutch does not engage on my 2000 T&C. I checked the fuses and relay and they are OK. What might be the problem? Serpintine belt broke. Prior to breaking a rough noise was heard under the hood and the a/c was not blowing cold. New a/c compressor installed less than 6 months ago.

I would first check the Freon - is it up to pressure

Take belt off and see if compressor turns freely

Then check the Freon pressure switch - temporarily jumper see if it comes on - don't leave it run long - just temp test

Don't et the new compressor fool your thinking. Start from the beginning again

SOURCE: a/c compressor clutch will not engage

There is a compressor relay "fuse" under the hood (in the fuse compartment). It is black and has a "diode" symbol on it. I replaced mine and all was well. Good luck.

SOURCE: AC clutch not engaging

it wont engage if your low on refrigerant you can bypass the low pressure switch located on or near the receiver dryer it has 2 wires plugged into it take a paper clip and bypass the 2 in the boot and it will run long enough to re charge it.

SOURCE: a/c compressor replaced but new one does not engage clutch

you need to jump the low freon switch to refill the system...this will turn on the clutch until you have freon in the system.

SOURCE: noise under right front of hood

This is pretty hard to diagnose without being there. I would suggest that you take a hose with ends cut off and listen through it, since you are mechanically inclined. I would also check things that may be rattling against the firewall, the exhaust system for rattles as they tend to do so when bushings are worn out, and recheck the things you have if you haven't done so with hose or stethescope. I had a similar problem that was a loose exhaust bushing... Hope this helps you, Rick

AC fuse and relay for 2001 Ford Expedition

Pull a relay out and use paper clip to jump. Usually cross corner. Watch compressor clutch and see if engages when key is turn ahead. Don't start car. If it does good. Now take alligator clips and check relay. Clip each wire to negative and positive battery post. Then clip negative to negative relay pin. And touch positive to correct pin. If it doesn't click do it another relay so you know your doing it right. If determined relay is good. And your compressor clutch did engage when testing it. You are low on freon.

Ac problem no voltage to ac clutch on dodge caravan 1999 3.3 eng

If you do not have enough refrigerant in the system. The low pressure switch will prevent the compressor from engaging to avoid damage.

Check your pressure.

I don't recommend this, but you may need to jump your low pressure switch to get the compressor going to add more refrigerant to the system. But if your low on charge, it may be "best to take it to a shop to have them fill the system".

AC Compressor not engaging on 2000 Chevy Impala. Fuses and AC relay okay. No power at compressor. Need wiring diagram. Also need to know if compressor requires 12v for operation. If not what should voltage...

When your R-134a runs too low it will NOT engage the compressor. You need to refill your a/c system before the clutch will engage, I also suggest finding the leak.

Ok hear we go agian 2000 ford taurs 3.0 lit no a/c when i jump the compressor with a jumper wire. it works fine and i checked the high side swtich it works fine and the low side works ok to.

There are 3 likely problems:
  1. system could be air locked; when recharged, its possible more air than refrigerant was pumped into the system
  2. clogged or bad expansion valve
  3. AC clutch is bad; although it will engage when you jump it, the clutch could still be bad preventing it from engaging when you turn on the AC
Hope this answers your question. Best of luck.
